Holy! It's raining so hard where I am!
There's no rain here
Apparently there was a huge storm in California last week?? Did anyone see it? We barely got any rain where I am. I don't think the storm came to the Bay Area lol

Nothing about the huge storm in Santa Rosa...
It was raining pretty good, but nothing catastrophic...

It was like $220, but there was a HUGE piece of mopani in Vallejo Aquarium. I didn't measure it, but it was over 2ft, maybe around 3ft long, and 12" around.

That is about what they all want to charge I'm afraid.

You might look at Universal Rocks online. They have fake logs made from resin or something. I personally don't like the look of it, but it is certainly cheaper than a 50lb chunk of mopani!

$220 is imho quite excessive. It might be the store price you will find in CALIFORNIA but i personally would never pay even 1/2 that much for a 2ft piece of driftwood. The only exception are those tall pieces (I forget what you call them) - those i have seen are a bit more but even then $220 seems quite excessive.

Lol it's the price you find in the Bay Area. Everything costs more than it should here.

Like houses!
When I lived outside Cali, there was a guy across the street that that BUILT a house for $90k! I dont know if I could renovate a house in Sonoma County for that!

When I was in colorado there was this character who built four houses on a couple of acres (the city went after him); I mean he built them by himself and the wood work was absolutely fantastic. I've never seen such high quailty wood work esp when you consider he used the trees as they were knot and all. Not too many folks these days have that skill level. Anyway the city went after him and made him remove 1/2 of them and he moved to ark. in protest.

Why did they care? Did he not permit them, or were they too close?

This was in the foothills (boulder county) and they have very strict zoning laws on constructs per acre - something like one construct per 2 acres or so (not sure of the exact rules - this was around 1989-1990).

Why did they care? Did he not permit them, or were they too close?

Would that be considered a 20 fish "fish fry." LOL

Jk, that is always fun to see babies! I have no idea about Ultimate. I know Santa Rosa Pet Club (the store) does, but no idea about others...

I should be clear. Pet club wants a call beforehand to make sure they have a tank ready, and they dont give credit. They DO take fish though, which puts them head and shoulders above some other shops imo

Any recommendations on a store in the San Jose or Santa Cruz area that has cheap neocaradina (cherry or blue dream or rili) shrimp?

Or should I wait for a CL seller?

I'm gonna be in the area today..

Andy’s pet shop has some cherry shrimp, but you might have to call them to double check. Clear water aquarium had a lot of shrimp last time I went. I think they had both blue dream and cherry shrimp. Both stores are in San Jose

It looks like the petsmart near me stopped selling bettas! A couple weeks ago, my sister told me that an animal police officer was questioning all the employees, so I wonder what happened.
All of their tanks look really clean now too. I also don’t think I saw any fish bowls or tanks smaller than 5 gallons, which is surprising lol.

Yeah you can! If someone travels to SoCal they’ll know where to stop by Super Pets seems like a great store too!

I can imagine THAT conversation!
Cop: "why do you put living things in a box shorter than they are?"
Manager: "uh, because the customer wants to."
Cop: "did the customer want that, or is that the 'cheapest option' you offer them, without the stipulation that that box should only be used for treating a very small, sick amoeba?"

Yeah, petsmart gets my business occasionally, but petco is pretty much off limits as about 60% of their fish seem to be in tanks with some sort of disease, and the tanks without disease are frequently without FISH! LOL
Though, I will say, they are doing WAY better than a store I visited recently that had ich in almost EVERY tank. I mean, 9 out of 10 tanks! They even had a fire, tire track eel (the really cool looking fire something eel) that they wanted $180 for with some terrible disease. I think it was fungus or something, but I would think that a basically $200 fish would warrant more care than that...
