I’ll share my wisdom. You must sound very sophisticate even though I know I’m not.

“Mother, As we both know I have been very fascinated in aquatic like for a while now and would like to expand my boundaries to something new. I would like to have some Neocaridina davidi commonly referred to as cherry shrimp in my miniature aquatic ecosystem. They will not cause you can trouble as they will be added to my existing ecosystem. So it is with my greatest gratification that you would consider.
Your dearest child”

and adding you will be paying for it somewhere in there helps to

I love this, I will have to use this but instead for more tanks instead of shrimp! Ill switch out the species for the barcode number and my parents should give in.

Don't know with parents. I just sneak my fish and snails in behind my wife's back. She doesn't pay a lot of attention to the fish tanks besides her platies. Or just doesn't say anything.

Simple, explain why shrimp are objectively awesome:
- they have extremely low bioload, so as to not tax your current biocapacity.

- they're an excellent janitorial service, as they will eat leftover food and fish poop, breaking it down further and making it less toxic.

- cherry shrimp breed, which provides your betta with free snacks via the shrimplets, leading to a happier fish (your mileage may vary, do not use if your mom hates the idea of predation)

- their addition requires no extra accommodations or care that you do not already provide your betta's tank.

... other than that, purchasing the less expensive varieties (ie don't pay $15 per individual shrimp if getting more than one) and paying for them yourself always helps lol

Hehe, my strategy was chore bargaining. Ok mom how many lawn mowing, car washing and, carpet vacuumings can I get per shrimp?
Of corse it helps to smothe into it, by taking out the trash and washing the dishes before the barganing...

What I do is I just get fish by myself when I go with my sister to pick up my nephew. (We stop by pet stores and get stuff sometimes).

I then breed my fish and my mom tells me we need room for the new baby fish and if i'm good suggests to get aquariums.

I then grow out the babies and sell them or stuff then fill the tank with whatevs. Or you could keep the babies and hoard them and make it so you don't have any more room until your mom says you need more tanks...

(Although if you want variety then sell the babies and buy stuff with your own money)

If she gets annoyed then tell her when you get stuff.

Then when my fish has more babies my mom says we need more room and the cycle continues.

For example...

I had guppies.

They had babies.

My mom let me get a 5g for the guppies.

I sold all my guppies.

I got shrimp for the 5g

I got medaka fish and had them make babies.

Now I need room for the babies.

My mom says we can get another 5g.

By the end of the year I predict I will have at least 5 new aquariums.

My room is small though so I don't want to have too much but I want to be surrounded by fishies.
Although my mom is pretty leniant and nice and I got sensitivity to feelings on my side so if i'm good she rewards me.
Pretty much just make logical excuses on why you need more fish tanks or fish then buy the stuff by yourself or ask your mom if she likes any fish then buy that fish and call it yours.

The Bamboo shrimp are too big, but as for the Cherry shrimp: Has your mom ever seen one? Maybe she isn't aware of just how tiny (and cute) they are. I always think dwarf shrimp look like they're riding unicycles as they propel themselves through the water. Maybe if she sees just how tiny they are, and how they hide in the moss, plants and perhaps little caves, she will agree to let you have them. Good luck! Sounds like you have a great zoo!

I feel this so hard! When my fish died of old age I was depressed (not by fish, just chemical imbalance) and I let the tank continue running but with only plants inside. It developed a thick layer of BGA and was gross but still it sat for about 2 years. About a week ago now I decided I was feeling better and it was time to take my hobby back. I found my python and a net and cleaned the entire tank while my husband was at work. The tank was surprisingly still cycled from the decaying plants and left over food inside which shocked me lol! I added a little media just in case from my axolotl tank and ran out and got some plants and some blue dream shrimp. By the time he got home the nasty tank looked gorgeous and was filled with plants and shrimp. He didn’t notice until I brought it up. Everyone else who sees it oohs and ahhs over it but hubby still doesn’t see a difference. He will never notice the three magenta mystery snails I am adding tomorrow either

Well since they have an extremely low bio load and and will be in an existing tank, they basically don’t exist Plus they help clean up the tank and make it nicer to look at. (even if the amount they clean isn’t really noticeable )

She has since lifted the moratorium on fish and such, because a)she knew i had a couple of projects i REALLY wanted and b) she doesn't have to do anything with them at all, other than feed and watch her platies. Didn't even notice my pleco in quarantint til today when i pointed to it, its only been in the house over a week....right by our bed lol

Just tell her you want to be a marine biologist when your older. If it has anything to do with college she’d put a great white in your bathtub.

Or you could move to Florida and work on a shrimp boat! Then start your own version of deadliest catch on the Discovery channel.

That’s awesome! I’m just glad my husband doesn’t often try to stop me with animals. I have a lot but only 2 tanks up. Axolotls and the shrimp. He’s pretty chill about it as long as all of the animals but the dog live in cages or tanks lol.

We are not very chill about it. Has something to do with the fact our 21 yr old daughter got a gecko when she was 18 and has barely taken care pf it since. I even talked to her about rehoming it the other day. "I don't wanna get rid of my gecko!" "Then i suggest you take care of it for once."

that's what I'm dealing with my sister. She has a gecko and only feeds it when I ask her to and that normally once a week. She refills its water twice a month and hasn't cleaned the tank more than 2 times in almost a year. She absolutely refuses to either rehome it or give it to me. thankfully its a desert gecko (leopard gecko) so its hardy but it still needs weekly care especially since its a juvenile

Can guarantee that works against you in at least some way. Certainly the main reason none of the other kids can have pets in our house.

Edit: wife only lets me have fish because i do all the work! Lol

your not supposed to. My grandma in another state had a single baby fish and didn't know what to do with it. so I took it home when it was only three days old. I also had guppyfry born a day before and she was raised with 5 guppy fry so she loves swimming with them.
