What tank do you want but can't have yet?

I thought this would be an interesting thread to see what people like. This is not necessarily a dream tank, it's within reason. Maybe you haven't been able to get it yet because your living or financial situation doesn't allow quite yet, it's a few years down the road. Or maybe it's just very hard to find the fish you want to put in it. So what's your tank you want and plan to do, but for whatever reason cannot at the moment. Tank size + stocking, be as specific as you feel.

For me it's a 180 discus tank. I already own the tank, picked it up broken for $50 it just needs to be resealed and a new brace or rI'm (one of the braces is completely gone). Not too hard of a fix up, well worth it. But I can't get it set up yet because I need more permanent housing (college sucks like that), it is a very heavy tank to move I think just a big scraggly piece of driftwood covering a lot of the tank would be awesome, especially coated in some weeping moss. As for stocking starting with a big school of cardinal tetras. Get a lot of color zooming around the tank. A pair of zebra plecos. Just absolutely gorgeous fish. Then run 10-15 discus. I absolutely love yellows for whatever reason. Golden rafflesias and golden tiger pigeons are to die for imo. I love snakeskins and leopards too. Red malboros. Just a real variation of color and pattern. I think that would make for a super nice show tank.

300 gallon Cory tank. It sounds unreasonable, but I already have the money put to the side already to buy the tank and stand (over 3,000 USD). I’d love to see how cories act in schools of 100+, especially sterbaI (common but amazing, my pick of all the cories I own) and maybe get a few discus to spice up there upper levels of the tank.

Two tank ideas of mine come to mind instantly: the arowana tank and the indoor pond turtle tank.

Arowana one started when I found out one of my local shops has them in on occasion. Ever since I locked eyes with that silver beaut I had been planning. This one is far more simple than the turtle one, as its straight forward with the tank, no modifications.

Now the indoor pond turtle tank is an intriguing name already right? Trust me its cool. The idea is to replicate the large 'above ground' display enclosures that reptile centers might use. Giant square, pond insert in the front, coated over by real grass and plants with a small incline in the back w/waterfall. The ground is level with the top so short glass walls would go around each side. It would have the look of a weirdly shaped hot tub with grass.
All the equipment goes underneath all hidden like behind a panel. The obvious reason for this one still being an idea is its size, I just don't have the space. Seeing I want this to be 5 maybe 6ft across.

This doesn't sound unreasonable this sounds AMAZING. Corys schooling how they do in the wild the way things should be. Like that aquashella tank of 600 neon tetras.

Any ideas on the stocking yet? Or is it still very much up in the air.

180g or 220g startfire glass rimless medium tech planted tank stocked with 1000 chilI rasboras and infinite blue velvet shrimp....

T5-HO / LED hybrid lighting, wet / dry filter tower sump, auto top off system, with reef style reverse osmosis fresh water mixing tanks.

All controlled off a phone app (controllers and smart wifI power bars) with a 24 / 7 video surveillance system so I can check in whenever I want.

I pretty much have all the fish in my 63, 2 Snakeskin Gourami, 9 Three Spot Gourami(might go up to 12, unsure) and a Asian Bumblebee Catfish.
I might add a trio of SAEs i've got in another tank and i'm on the lookout for a species of Mystus Catfish. I'm considering a species of Barb or Rasbora but the focus of the tank is on the GouramI

140 gallon marine tank. I am going to be relocating continents at some point in the medium-near future, though, and I don't have the time to keep a marine tank running, and I certainly don't want to move one.

I want 125 gallon, but I have no idea if I can do it. Still trying to figure it out. I think I'll go for a 60 or somewhere near there. the sheer weight of 125 scares me even though the house is on a slab so it should be fine.

My laundry is on other side of wall ( so there's a water line already nearby) , so I want to get a sink attachment that pulls over near the tank & I only have to do an on /off flow control for water changes !

I got a pretty good bonus coming so toying with ideas currently.

All controlled off a phone app (controllers and smart wifI power bars) with a 24 / 7 video surveillance system so I can check in whenever I want.

omg, like a nest /ring camera thing so you can watch your tank remotely!!! that'd be awesome

I have a 40 gallon sitting around empty... I have to figure out a (nice) stand and I’m hoping my mother will let me put it downstairs as more of a display tank (right now she drags all our guests up to my room to see the fish ). But I need to save up a bit before I can do anything else (applies to the following too :/ )

I also have a 29 gallon sitting around half filled as a grow out tank for some betta fry (females). I know exactly what I want to do with it, but I have no where else for the fry, so it’s just a waiting game.

The newest ambition, was (as a backup plan) I wanted to do a nano tank in my 5.5 when my oldest male betta dies eventually, but recently my local petco started carrying rimless cubes, and I have a massive soft spot for cubes. Now I want to do the nano tank in one of their 6 gallon cubes, but at $60 that’s $10 a gallon, and it’d be adding another tank to get filters/heaters/plants for and to take care of, so I have to tell myself no

Hi, my dream tank means I would need to get another house or do huge renos to this one. It would be an entire double sided built into a wall like the huge display tank I saw years ago at one of our LFS'.
Stocking would be tons of plants and for fish - corys and Discus.

Great ideas! I to would like a 220 or more discus tank. I have the spot already but I’m telling myself no . I’m 10 months in on a 125 discus tank and I’ve got to just stay with this for at least another year .
I’d love to see 100 Cory’s in a tank schooling. I’ve got 10 each in 3 of my tanks and these guys missed the memo. Or they just don’t care for school. No schooling ever going on . Just got Pygmy Cory’s thought these guys have to school or shoal or maybe just hang out together!! But no.
As to cameras these are easy you can even buy used off of eBay. They set up through the internet and can be viewed anywhere on your phone. I have a pan/tilt d link in my fish room so I can check both of those tanks . Can even put it up on computer at work .
Debbie1986 go for the 125 it will be fine on a slab.
Rev be careful with that tank. Old tanks are time bombs. I had an old 200 spring a small leak on the back corner. Before I could even start draining the tank the back glass cracked. Sounded like a gun shot and drop 200 gallon on the floor in seconds. Water fish plants all on the floor . So be careful with it. Have you sealed anything that big before?

I would like a 75 gallon with a biotope look with leopoldI angelfish, neon tetras and various plecos plus orange laser cories. Actually sorta realistic as I have an empty 75 gallon in the garage that I still need to beg my parents to let me set up

I have not. But I know people who have so I'm not doing it alone as a total amateur that's for sure. That would be a disaster . I'm going to totally overkill the new brace. And it's not going anywhere inside a house until I've thoroughly tested it can hold water well. If it breaks I'm out of $50 which I can live with. If it holds I got a steal. I don't think it's necessarily that old. The guy I bought it from hadn't used it. The guy he bought it from only used it for a couple years. Depending on how life is looking over the next year or so I might even resell it. There were plenty of other people interested in it I just got there first. Definitely not skimping on repairs though.

you should go with cinder blocks and wood as a stand for ten 40 gallon, it’s super cheap easy to set up and can even look nice!

I was planning to do a blackwater 33 or 20 long after I moved, but I may not be any more. I want to go to school and up my serving in the church, so I prob shouldn't get into MTS. I might set up a shrimp 3 gallon though. We'll see, I'm such an addict.

I have 3 that come to mind. First is a planted 10 gallon shrimp tank. I may do that one after my 210 build is done. The second tank is a 33 long shell dweller tank. I don’t have space for it but more than that it’s hard to find the tank. Some of the places I’ve received quotes from are higher than I want to spend. The last one is a 210 gallon reef tank right next to my 210 planted tank (once I get it finished). This one will probably always just be a dream.

I want my same tank but just bigger so move from 6L x 2.5W x 3.5H upto 8 x 3.5 x 4.25 it would fit perfectly where the 300 is now floor is already reinforced and ready to go not sure if my wife is keen though. Would probably move the CA cichlids into it and make the 300 SA cichlid/ community tank

I don't care much for the volumes of water, but the overall dimensions. In general: Room is the main problem here.

I'd like to have a blackwater tank with at least 3m length to simulate a part of a riverbank or one with a 1x2m footprint to simulate a flooded forest. Both not only don't fit in my flat, they don't even fit through the door.

Mine would not be a tank as such but rather a 40 foot long set of stepdown tanks with about 2 foot backdrp to the back wall that would be built up like a paledorium. The foreground or through the front glass would be the water flowing from one side to the other then pumped back up to the top to slowly flow back down. basically a section of a small stream, a deeper pool at top, bottom and middle and in between maybe 10" wide and at most 6" deep faster moving section.
That way you could watch fish etc in a very similar way to in the wild but being able to watch them from the side rather than only from the top. I'll keep dreaming.

Oh, I’ve been kind of daydreaming recently about getting an actual freshwater tank once I attend university and get a place for myself :’)

I only have small tanks atm since I live with my folks, but I’d love to get a 55 gallon freshwater/community tank. Make it all pretty. Attempt aquascaping. Heavily planted, look into CO2 once the time comes. I think that would be very fun

Keep the dream alive. Search craigslist regularly.

Sometimes big tanks go cheap or even free. Youtube can teach you how to reseal one that is free due to a leak. So plan a "this space reserved" in your house/basement.
When it comes to discus your learners can sometime be found cheap on craigs. Last year someone sold a pail of quarter sized yellows for 40$ total (IIRC there were 60 or 100 in the pail. less than 1$ each in any case. downside they are yellow). They sold the parents for 60$? 100$? I guess they bred them and decided discus was not for them (I hope it was not that their tank broke).
I got mine when a LFS shut down and they were marked down to something like 25$ each for 4". A few others I picked up on black friday sales, also massive markdown.
Your discus that are not learners/starter I assume will be expensive as I'm guessing you have specific patterns already picked out as perfect. Of course these may change by the time your tank, skills, and money are ready because there area always new discus coming out.

Yep. I’m only 14, and I live with my parents, so I’ve got several years until I have my own place and even have a chance for a large tank.

I really love wild discus/wild pattern.

If your parents have a garage with some open space I'd start the cheap aquarium search now. If you find enough big cheap/free tanks by the time you are 18 and put them in your parents garage I'm sure they will have you moving into your own place at 18. They might even help with rent to get their garage back.

My garage is PACKED!

Both cars get parked there, and there are a WHOLE lot of my sibling’s toys.

I’ll have to wait until I have my own place. In the meantime, I’ll start saving!

I would really like to upgrade my 45
to a 65; and my 65 to 100. I could do it but I literally don’t have the space for it. I am also thinking about moving in the next 6 months or so and what with he numerous tanks I have already - the thought of that is frightening. When I move I’ll reassess all tanks

The wife was gifted a 65 gal tank & stand from a neice but we can't do anything with it until after we move by June. The neice is holding it until we move since we do not have space in current apt. Plus would have to lug it up about 15 steps.
Besides adding current fish, I'm going to stock some Bolivian Rams and a few other colorful fish. It seems mine now are dark colors, grey & black...

I don’t have an exact size in mind because I don’t have any wall space in my house, but something big enough to have a large school of cardinal tetras (30+) with maybe a few angels thrown in is my dream. With tons and tons of plants beautifully aquascaped. I’d also like to upgrade my current 5 gallon guppy tank to a 20 gallon and get some female guppies, then get a betta for the 5. But my husband says that I have enough on my plate with our two toddlers, dog, cat, and current fish tank.
