Tired Platy

Do platy fish have days when they're just more tired? Yesterday afternoon I noticed my platy girl was chilling on her fake plant decoration. I figured she was just going to sleep a little early, but then today she's periodically going into the plant to rest. She shows no signs of disease, and she's eating and swimming around when she's not in the plant, but she is putting her fin down more often than normal (she usually has it up 24/7). My fault, the nitrates were a bit high today (5-10) so I did a 30% wc and I'm going to do another tomorrow. Could she just be feeling the affects of the nitrates? Not really sure what high nitrates cause for symptoms.

It's probably nitrates. If you just provide fresh water (treated obv) and keep an eye on her she'll likely perk up.

I came back from work and I’ve been watching her swim around for a few minutes now I will never go over a week without a water change again! Lesson learned

Yup she’s back to her normal self again!
Honestly, after a few hours of her not perking up after the wc, I was getting nervous so I posted. She was fine right after I submitted my post! I think she just wanted to shame me for missing my wc this week

Random, but do all fish enjoy playing in moving water? One of my platys and my guppy are always playing in the small current from the filter, and when I dump water in during a water change they LOVE going through the bubbles

Well, not all fish love playing in moving water. I do have certain livebearers overhere that prefer still water.

Some do enjoy faster moving water, but also they swim upstream to find fresher water in the wild...so keep an eye on your parameters when they do that.
But I have one little guy who swims up to the air flow and rides the wave, so to speak, then swims back up to do it again. He has done this since I first got him over a year ago. He's done it in all water conditions, so pretty certain he's just playful. Fish definitely have different personalities.
