Here I go again!! 180gal Discus tank.

So I’m starting a new 180g tank :). My 125 is starting to look to small for the fish.
27302276-A5C2-4577-BA29-B4CB26E18410.jpegSo I’ve bought a acrylic 180. Ordered in Jan got today :). It’s big!!!
B8CE24C8-9AED-4FD4-BFA8-5B393ABC1665.jpeg
35DC613E-B189-47FE-81CF-FD3C4FE998AD.jpegbought a used wet/dry last week for $60. Needs some help but it’s coming along.
09C8AEB5-35FC-4C88-9E9C-CBBADDD5826E.jpegits 36x12x14 with 2 chambers and a sump so it should be good enough. Moved around some tanks but I think I underestimated the size of this tank. Was going to put on open left side but now thinking it may block slop sink.
816B4345-74C5-4D9C-8B84-31B2DA970CB0.jpeg Will have to see. Hate to move all the tanks but may have to. So much to do! Still have to build a stand get heaters. Going to use everything from 125 so should be able to move the cycle too. Though the wet/dry on the 125 I want to put on my other 125. So the bailing will stay in it but all the other media will move to new tank with the odyssey 350. Should be fun! Im only putting a small amount of gravel in the tank. Just enough to cover the bottom. Will continue growing plants in pots.

So this 180 weighs just 200lbs so my sons coming over to help me bring it to the basement. Will put it on dollies for the time being toget an idea of where it will fit. Even if it’s on that wall the 90 will move to the spot where the 125 is and the other 125 will have to move further up the wall cause it will be behind the 180 by about 12”. Lots to do :).

Good that it is a convertible, no other way to get into it as the doors don't open?

Finished the frame for the stand and got the tank off the floor.
2843D97A-F16B-4D6A-8023-B89CBBE42D31.jpegnot sure if I want to put. It there. But anywhere else will be moving all my tanks. Not sure if I’m up for that. Thinking where the 125 to the right is would be the best place. But don’t know where I’d move the 90 while setting this up. Need more room :).

Could you push the other two closer together and slot the new one into the corner ? Not all the way to obscure part of it but so it created a square in the corner ? Wasted room of course , unless you can fit a canister in there ( assuming you can get to it ) . But the stand looks great !

The 2 under the window are a 125 black back and a 90 blue back. I just thought that’s too much weight in one spot. Yes concrete under tiles but again just thought to much weight.

Well I do plan on moving the 90 to another wall and moving the 125 about a foot to 18” further along the wall it’s on. So I’ll have a space I can use in the corner.

You'd need at least 10 of those 125s before weight became an issue on the slab! unless your concrete was poured sketchy

Lol. It’s time!! And help and still waiting for some parts. Tanks lite but I still can’t lift it by myself. Hopefully the new overflow arrives this weekend and I can cut the finish wood and paint. Still killing ants!! Can’t believe how resilient these guys are. They’ve moved into the light fixture now. Luckily with all the pesticides the shrimp havnt been effected.

No the hoses from the overflow to the wet/dry don’t fit into the bulkheads. So I going to just do it in pvc piping.

  • #48
Ok realized if I piped it I’d never be able to move them and would’nt be able to clean the filter unless I added unions to the pipes. Just seems like to much work. Had to heat up the hoses to get a small peice of pvc on to it get into the bulkheads. But it worked. One hose is to long so ordered another and instead of the bulkheads I want to try 90s. So also waiting for some rubber washers to fit the 90s on. Hopefully this weekend I’ll have what’s needed. Think I’ve got everything else ready.

Yes I dread the moving of tanks. Once the 180is up and running I’ll move the discus from the one 125 and everything in it into the 180. Than drain it and move it. Than start with the next 125. It’s going to take time!! Meanwhile I did start putting water in :).

D8CA9C22-3F40-49E2-8F4F-BC5E83F25AEE.jpegfilled it halfway and will leave it like this till Saturday. Got the heater on and a filter in there to move the water.

And the new guys are looking good and eating.
