Daughters Tank

HI everyone,

My daughter is setting up her tank and wanted to have a thread about it just like her younger brother. She is 10 and being a protective parent she will be writing it on my account just like her brother. I will be guiding her but we are always open to ideas and advice, just please keep it polite.

Here she is:

HI my dad got me a Fluval premium 26 gallon bow front tank kit. We just put everything together. We put in black round gravel (fluval stratum had some extra around)

Plants:
Anubias I got as a gift from the fish store
I took a java fern covered driftwood from my dads tank

I also have a bridge type thing from an old tank and 2 bigger rocks.

I am going to take a couple fish from my dads 55 gallon since we are stuck in because of the virus. I will decide what else I want and we will order it online probably.

We took a sponge and some bio rings from a setup tank to speed up the cycling.

Here is a photo of what it looks like now, I will post a better one once the air bubbles are gone

That's going to be an awesome tank! I'm very excited for you! What are you going to put in it fishwise after the virus is over?

That's looking good. I'm looking forward to when my grandson Jett is big enough to have his own tank (he's 2-1/2, so it will be a while).

Thank you everyone for replying I am exited to get in to the hobby I was looking online with my dad and brother. I saw a lot of cool fish I know I can not get all of them because they can not all live together and also my aquarium is only 26 gallons not as big as my house.

My idea :

Pair of dwarf Cichlid
Tetras or rasboras of some sort

I really liked a peacock goby or maybe killifish or some type of rainbow fish. But I need to research what can live happy and healthy in my tank

It sounds like you're being smart about stocking. I understand the desire to want a lot of different fish, but I think after getting it set up you'll agree that a tank with fewer kinds of fish, but with more of each kind, looks much nicer than just one or two of a lot of different kinds.

It's awesome that you're off to such a good start! Keep on doing that research! Looking forward to seeing how your tank turns out. If you decide on a dwarf cichlid pair, can I recommend Apistogramma cacatuoides? I'm a bit biased since they are my favorite fish, but I'd recommend them nonetheless.

This is dad I agree with the cactuoides! I have a beautiful pair in my 55

Well... I’m here from one of your dads posts. I’m not going to be much help if you’re set on your stocking, but I’ll be reading this to see how it comes along. You might want to find a taller plant or decoration to put in your tank. I think that your tetras and chiclids would appreciate the swimming cover near the top. If you do live plants, I like Temple Compacta. Sadly my plant is dying right now from a deficiency of some kind.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on (it’s dad) the iPhone app stopped working and with the homeschooling and covid crazy ness time just got away from me. My daughter will probably update soon I’m sure.

In mid April we added 3 apisogramma sp. viejeta gold. So she has 5 neon/cardinal tetras, 2 amano shrimp, some mts snails and the 3 Apistos

All was as expected from a new tank had some diatoms, some other algae but nothing out of the ordinary. Well until this afternoon, we were doing our usual water change when we noticed 3-4 babies. With the shape and colouration I’m pretty certain they are apistos. I have no clue what to do. They seem to be doing well without us doing anything. They seem to be fully formed and swimming well just tiny. Any advice? I’m not experienced with babies

here is what the tank looks like now I couldn't get any pics of the babies.

To Dad: You're an awesome Dad! My kids think i'm a crazy fish lady! I've been stocking a new tank, so yeah, I've been frequently buying fish!

To Daughter: You've got a pretty awesome Dad!! I have a 10 year old son, with a keen interest in my tank, and I take his suggestions into my design. He loves the jungle look, so we've been trying various plants. May I suggest Italian Val, it will grow tall and cover a tank if you let it, but can be trimmed as well. Easy growing and spreading in my tank with basic gravel and no tabs, just liquid fertilizers when i remember. Also Anacharis, can be floating or planted. Grows really well, and are nitrate sponges!!!

Great tank you have there! I will be following along!

If you want to save the babies and keep an eye on them and make sure they are fed, you could put them in a breeding net. If not, just put some first bites in the tank for a while for them to eat.
