I love the white fry in the first few photos!

I’ll have to keep an eye out for when you start offering them because I really like that white one (if you offer him/her for sale)...

The largest white one is more than likely going to be sold/given away as it is the only fry that has a kink in its tail! All the white ones so far have turned out looking fantastic. I wish more were white but I’ll take what I got

that's a group of chunky ladies! they almost look like platys lol its great to see all the generations!

I swear they don’t look that tubby in person, don’t you known the camera adds a few pounds?

Just moved the little ones to a 20gal tank yesterday, I can actually see them now! Group photo in the cup, lots of stress stripes. Note the ovaries in the right one.

The marble gene is hitting the majority of the fry now, lots of dark fish are durning light and I’m seeing spots of iridescence on many of them

I’ve got a fresh batch of free swimming fry now! Dad is actually the grandpa of the ones above. Mom is a marbled female HMPK from ebay. I planned to breed her with a male I bought at the same time but he’s still too small for her, she’s huge.

If anyone remembers the dad’s lineage you will know he has double tail and marble genes. He gets his look from his wild colored mom.

Doesn’t look like a huge batch this time around and I’m thinking of keeping dad with the fry for a while longer. He’s still in his divided section that’s about 1/3 the tank so if he goes nuts and tries eating fry they can get away safely.

Starting to see some black on the fins of a few lighter juveniles. Everyone is still getting along so we’ll see how long the males stay peaceful. The big white female with blue fins is partially blind so can’t go in the sorority. She’s the baby sitter now

As for the other spawn, Dad is still with the fry and they’re growing well. Eating lots of BBS and even dad is eating some when he can. I did see something strange, a couple fry had a big white dot on them. One right near the gill and the other on the tail. They seemed to eat and behave normally though. I would guess there to be 20-30 fry.

Mr. B is taking great care of his babies. Started doing frequent water changes and 3 larger daily feedings of BBS.

AE79CC1A-D511-4475-9B29-184F1855A8AB.jpeg

I’ve seen no new white spots on fry but I did notice one larger fry with a bent spine.

Moved the older juveniles to the newly improves 36gal bowfront. They’ve joined their grandma, mom and aunts in the sorority. So for so good, no wounds other than a split fin.

What do you mean by cohabiting? They should not be in the same tank w/o a divider. The dumbo does look female, she looks plump in the belly area, short pelvic fins and I do see vertical striping, also called breeding stripes for females. Halfmoon dumbo females can have really long fins, my female dumbo has them too.

There is one cellophane with iridescent and black spots. Looks very nice but never comes within photo range/angle.

The cellophanes are too bright and tend to blow out the camera.

Next week I plan on putting some of my little ones up for sale. Still working out their genders but I more or less know who I plan to keep.

Now that the youngest spawn is a bit over 1 month old I’m working on getting them to eat micro pellets. Some of the larger ones have taken nibbles so it’s getting there. High protein content will hopefully do then good.

It’s been a while and plenty has happened. Went on vacation for a week and came back to sick baby bettas. I believe they had velvet so I treated them and surprisingly they recovered. Nearly all were effected, some died and some were culled as they were having severe issues. I’ll be culling more strictly on form from now on. Here are some of them, I have special interest in the white one. Some are showing good ray branching in their tails too. Also note the big adult is not part of the spawn.

I started a new spawn with the male I bought this spring. His first batch failed but now he is the proud father of a little spawn from this female.

A69FE95A-1A64-4D3E-9CC5-3783AED803AA.jpeg
Here’s dad, he is a marble as is the female but he’s a HMPK whereas mom is just a PK. Hoping to get more impressive fins by pairing from the two spawns.

He is indeed, the fry are about 2 weeks old now and eating BBS. Dad is on one side of a divider though. Fry can swim through the holes to get away from him if he goes cannibal.

I found out this one is a male after thinking it was female for the longest time. He was moved to a split 10gal and blew a nice bubble nest. I love his color and while his fins are rather small his body shape is decent. I need to get better pics soon.

So I did a thing and ended up buying
this new female off ebay for him! She’s got nice big fins and a great top line. Colors seems to match his well too. Hopefully she’ll be here by the end of next week. In the mean time I’ll be moving things around for her arrival.

This one was from a different seller I've never bought from called texas-tom-plakat. They've got some nice and healthy looking fish and their reviews are high. I just put in the order today but haven't heard back from them yet.

Fastest shipment ever, she went out monday and here she is tuesday, today! I wasn’t quite ready as I was expecting her wed-thurs so she gets to chill in a big breeder box.

She’s thin and has more black than in the original listing picture but that’s to be expected in a marble. Terrible lighting but that’s because I don’t wanna stress her.

Here’s a pic of her pair, natural lighting (from the window) brings out his color nicely

So the last spawn with the teal male and one of my own females had an incident. The male jumped the divider and ate many of the fry on the “safe” side. After putting him back on the other side while and getting his other tank ready, he jumped out a tiny slit in the cover. I found him in time and he survived but the damage from it led to infection despite some TLC, no more teal boy. So I have 4 tiny fry left from him and they are growing very slowly.

On the flip side, my new female is getting on well with her pair. They’ve been flirting across a secure divider and I’ve introduced them for a bit today.

She’s a slI'm little thing but her belly is plump and the egg spot is protruding more than usual. He just needs a little encouragement to make a nest, hence the introduction.

Also an update on the older babies, they’re juveniles now and the males are getting aggressive. My favorite is still the white one that has now started getting a dark tail and yellow tint, love the scaling and expect great things as it matures, leaning towards male.

Also think the cellophane is a male. It’s looking interesting with the spots of color. The first spot of color was red on the lips

I tried my hardest to get the new female to spawn with my male but she just wouldn’t cooperate. She was dropping eggs but wouldn’t respond well to him. As funny as it sounds, there was no wiggle dance, no chemistry if you will.

So I decided on the spur of the moment to try one of my own females, the young white and blue marbled girl. This is her today after spawning.

D45E584C-5D51-4F23-989A-8A6D8ECCBC8F.jpeg
Sparks flew and now there are lots of eggs. The male may end up failing if he doesn’t keep blowing bubbles.

If he fails then I’ll give him a break before trying the new girl again. I really want to get new genes in the line.

The fry are free swimming as of last night but I’ve just noticed something interesting. The dad still ties to collect them but he’s doing it in a way I’ve never seen. While at the surface he holds still but quivers his body and fins. The fry seem to go towards the source of the vibrations and he collects several at a time this way. Of course get stops whenever I stick the device up to take a video. I’ll ask google about it.

The two survivors from the teal HMPK and one of my own females. Both have marbled, the male used to be natural colored (blue and red) so he looks completely different.
