7 inches of snow and more to come

Here in my little part of the world we don't normally get much in the way of snow and the temps don't normally get as low as they have been this winter. 7 degrees this morning and is supposed to be -3 tonight. The feel like temps are much lower than that. BRRRRRRRRR. Growing up around here we had winters like this and even colder but haven't seen anything like this for at least 20 years. The last snow we had of any really measurable amount was back in 1990. It didn't stop until it had dumped 16 inches on us. We normally get more ice/freezing rain than actual snow. I think I prefer the snow we are getting now. At least this dry snow doesn't break tree limbs and bring down power lines as bad as wet heavy snow or freezing rain.

The snow started yesterday morning, drifted down most of the day and through the night. Woke up to snow still drifting down this morning. It has just about stopped for now but left behind at least 7 inches. The weather folks tell is we will get more and maybe even MUCH more. YAY!!!!! Enough to make snow ice cream

We were supposed to get snow but instead just got a lot of ice. It’s all melted, but we haven’t had power for over 72 hours. Luckily we managed to find a generator to keep tanks running.

Clapping because you have a generator. Hopefully your power will be back on soon. Thankfully we've not lost our power since we just got dry snow this time. Wet heavy snow or ice usually take down power line around here.

The longest we have ever been out of power was 28 days. It was one of the worst ice storms we have ever had. It took down not only power lines but also power poles for at least 100 miles in all directions from us. We lost electricity, water and phones. Thankfully we had a generator and both heated and cooked with natural gas. We were able to get water from a dug well. Without electricity we weren't able to use our drilled well water.

My power is back. 3.5 days sounds a lot better than 28. Glad you made it through that!

I am happy to hear yours is back on. Thankfully most of the time when we lose ours anymore it is just for a few hours. More snow is predicted for us tonight and most of the day again tomorrow. It started abut an hour ago. Hubby had our walk way cleared off but I see it is covered again.

We have accumulated at least another 1 1/2 inches and it is still coming down. We may not be as fortunate with this one. This one looks to be a wet snow. The cedar trees are starting to droop pretty significantly. It is also building up on the power lines. Although the power company tries to keep trees away from the power lines it is next to impossible to prevent some from coming down over the lines.

Hubby has the generator ready and we have back up natural gas heat so we are ready for it but I sure hope it doesn't happen.

Temps are going up, snow is melting. I am actually starting to see some bare ground. I am sure the birds are enjoying themselves now. Thankfully the flock of blackbirds that sheltered here have moved on. I knew we had a lot of Cardinals here but had no idea as to how many there actually are. We also have various finches. Mainly purple and gold finches. All of them on top of bunches of other species of birds have to eat too. I have 3 feeders that each hold a full gallon of seed. We were having to refill them every day. Sure am glad we got a good supply of it before this hit us.

According the the weather reports Spring is supposed to be here next week. I hope and pray all our Texas friends either already have or will soon have their electricity back on. It seems Mississippi got hit with more ice than snow. Lots of buildings caved in from the weight on it. This winter will be remembered for many years to come as one of the worst in a long time for a lot of folks. Mother nature is going to do what she is going to do and all we can do is try to prepare for it and then hold on for the ride.

The only damage here was to my English Ivy. I had it covering 3 sides of our cinder block well house and a couple of our oak trees. The deer found it to be very tasty. They stripped it up as far as they could reach. It had taken me several years to train it to cover the well house. Oh well, If I could do it once I can do it again. I did it for looks, they needed it for survival.

I know I feel so bad for all of the people who had power outages and lost their fish.

Yep. Today we are forecasted to be above freezing for the first time in almost 3 weeks! Also, it was 14 out when i woke up. Which is higher than most of our highs have been in the last 3 weeks.

Edit: still over 20 inches of snow in a lot of places though.. so we will be dealing with that for some time yet.

How crazy! It’s so snowy! Here in Southern California it’s in the 70s and 80s! Wow!

We still have way over a foot also. It is starting to melt where it was shoveled. Currently 25* here.

Right now it is 45 degrees. This is our first day with temps above freezing in a while. Low over night was 20. I am hoping all of this is almost behind us now. I am dreading my next electric bill. Hubby has gas heat in his shop so that one is gonna be much higher than normal too. I know there are a lot of folks here that get this every year but it seems most folks not used to it are unprepared. It is difficult to prepare for when it seems to come out of the blue.
