Tadpoles in the patio ponds

jtjgg

The past few months the green tree frogs have been making a lot of noise at night. I've also seen a few gulf coast frogs and leopard frogs. Saw eggs and tadpoles in the 27g storage tote where I have red ramshorn snails. i scooped out some and placed them in a 5g bucket to better see them.

We used to catch "pollywogs" in the ponds by our house. None ever grew for us though....lol We probably just had them in a bucket in the yard.

Manjit

Vinegar might help with getting rid of frogs...
I used to pour vinger all around my pond(not in the water) during rainy seasons....
But on the other hand... if you dont have really small fish like guppies and molly then I dont ghink you have to worry much.

PeterFishKeepin

If you have or add fish such a small goldies he they will willingly eat tadpoles, my fish enjoy it

i'm trying to repopulate the green tree frogs and leopard frogs, we're at the edge of Houston, and more and more houses and business are being built further and further out. 30yrs ago my uncle used to hunt out here, it was just wooded areas and rice fields.

Can always bring a few in. This is stumpy. He had/has a damaged tail but all the important bits formed just the same :)

Have not seen him in a few days. I assume he left.

I also assume he lol Just POV laziness.

1st one with legs

more tadpoles getting their hind legs, watching them swim around for a few minutes, i can see their hind legs are currently non functional, still using only their tail to swim.

the 1st and largest one is confirmed to be a Green Tree frog, and has function in its legs, but still using its tail. the body is turning green, and there is a white stripe along its sides.

Nice! I hope the three or four hanging around the garden decide to keep living here. Food, water, heat mostly safe assuming the puppy doesn’t knock the trees over lol

I got 2 unbranded tadpoles from Petco to try in my outdoor pond. I gave them places to get out once they turned to frogs. I look every day but I've never seen them again. They were close to an inch so I don't think they would have been eaten.

Normally the "unbranded" tadpoles from Petco are bullfrog tadpoles, which are invasive in many parts of the world. They're only $3 though so why not

I feel like I just did a whole grade school science unit scrolling through this. Pretty cool!

2 more baby green tree frogs emerged from the water and a third batch of tadpoles

That's great!!! I love it!!!

I have not see tree frogs by my tubs all summer. The southern leopards claimed territory like a street gang in my yard

I think my guppies ate all the tadpoles I saw last week in my 2 40 gallon tubs with fish.

I have a 15 gallon and a 40 gallon without fish, plus a large planter pot for my lotus that seems pretty safe.

I walk outside and 3-6 frogs scurry away, while other just chill.

another baby green tree frog with its tail.
