Guppy fry always spit out food? Please help

Hello Fishlore,

I tried feeding my guppy fry decapsulated brine but it seemed too small for them so then I tried egg yolk. I watched them eat the egg yolk, then immediately spit it out. The egg yolk pieces are insanely small, about the size of a copepod or smaller but they still spit it out.Why is this happening?

plus they don’t look like they are even going after the food.

Maybe they just dont like it? My guppies will put anything in their mouth but spit out things they don't like especially plant pieces.

Huh, I find that interesting since a lot of fish reallly like eggs, my guppy eats too much of it lol. If possible you could try hatching the brine shrimp, the movement of the brine shrimp will "entice" the guppies.

You need live brine shrimp eggs.
Most fry will only eat live food, They are not as smart as their parents to seek non moving food.
I would get into microworm colonies and brine shrimp egg breeding if i was you.
They are both very cheap. If you would like information id be happy to share.

Thats to your opinion. They wont produce as long of fins and get as big as they should in my opinion
Live food provides what they get in the wild. But i have not tried pellets...

Guppy fry do not need to eat live brine shrimp. Crushed up flakes are fine for them, they are bigger than some other fish fry and should take it.

I dont think i want to feed my fry flake food. Maybe when they are older, but when they are growing wont live food help?

Not to be rude to you or anything, but I have to politely disagree. Guppy fry do fine, their fins will develop perfectly fine as long as you give them enough nutrition. You can raise them on egg yolk and powder food.

Its just what ive been taught. I might try egg yolks, but i feel flake food lacks proper fiber

Oh no I have back to back posts. Srry mods! Live food will help, but for nutritional purposes imo. As long as you provide the necessary nutrients like protein, it'll be fine. Egg yolk is a simple way to supplement them protein although it is a bit messy.

there's nothing wrong with it, I've been to a breeder who suppimented his Malawi cichlid fry with baby brine shrimp. but he was the only one I know who did it.

Sure! I'm not saying live foods are bad btw, if you have it on hand go ahead. I would just keep in mind that egg yolk does get messy so more water changes are required(although more water changes are beneficial too).

I use this on my molly fry.

nls probiotix small.jpg
otherwise good quality flake, put some in a zip lock sandwich bag and rub between your fingers, this will make a small power, just store it now in that zip lock bag.
