We have been keeping plants for a long time, and it seems like I can keep them successfully apart from aquatic plants which always seem to die. Our aloe plant is nearly six years old at this point, it’s about two feet wide.

What beautiful plants, the first one is my favorite!

Here’s a couple photos of succulent cactus we have growing indoors in front of the window.

Thank you!! Yours are beautiful too
Apparently this plant was pretty expensive a couple years ago since it was “rare” I’ve never seen it for sale before. I’m excited to give its babies away to friends

I showed my houseplant hoarder sister, Chelsea your tank. I want her to get back into aquariums since she’s a plant guru and could give me free plants haha
She says your tank is beautiful

One of my favorite is the african mask it too would have done well in my aquarium and I will be putting one in pond this year. It's the shiny pointed leaf one.

I used to have soooo many house plants than just ran out of time to care for them all for a while.
Bought a few tropical begonias a few years ago. They like my bright kitchen and fish water for watering.

It's definitely part of the genus Hoya. As for the species, it looks like a Hoya lanceolata.

I also have quite a few plants around the house, but it somehow ends up belonging to my mother. Here are some of the special ones.

Hoya carnosa

Some flower? An ID would be great.

Oh cool, 54L jar... won’t be that big. Maybe I can do a terrarium, test it out.
UHM THIS THING IS SO MUCH BIGGER THAN I ANTICIPATED!!! I got it for 10 bucks on Facebook
I’m a little bit terrified of myself right now
My brother wants to steal the jar though lol, maybe I’ll give it to him if my terrarium fails

I think the soil prep and water in the dish below the pot is important. Mine just in tropical soil and watered weekly. Google alocasia I believe it's called.

Where did you find your Pilea??? I have been searching for one in stores lol. I am also collecting peperomia plants currently (only have one so far - they're also hard to find).

I also have a rope hoya, some spider plants, a hobbit jade, a bougainvillea (it lives outside when the weather is nice), and an aloe.

I just bought a bookshelf that once it is put together will hopefully hold a bunch of house plantsin front of a window.

My hobbit jade and my new peperomia.

Yes!!! I love this thread and everyone’s plants!!

I have had some of my plants for 10-15 years, and I have a Hoya that is over 30 years old, given to me by my mother-in-law!

Addie42 my pilea is one of my favourites too...I had to track it down on kijijI about a year ago. Then the other day I also saw one at Canadian Tire (I am a fellow Ontario resident)! And that’s also where I got my African mask too!! Haha!!

My Monstera Deliciosa would probably be my most favourite though, going on 15 years old.
I love and collect different types of jade...my favourite is the Crassula varigata, but the Gollum jade is fun too, and I also recently found a wavy leaved jade as well, Crassula ovata undulata.
I love my purple oxalis, and my rubber plants...I have lots of succulents too.,,
It’s hard to pick a favourite, I definitely have MPS...my daughter has counted my pots at close to 100! Oops!!

I am still on the look out for a fishbone cactus though!!! Haha!!!

Addie42 I think you asked Smalltownfishfriend about the plant to the right of her spider plant...it looks like it has babies that grows on the tips of the leaves...is that right? A type of Kalanchoe? Mother of thousands maybe?? If so, I have a tons, and you are welcome to as many as you want Addie, if you ever come to southwestern Ontario!

Addie42, thank you! I got the Monstera over a decade ago as a tiny plant with only a couple of leaves...it was so long ago I don’t even remember how I got it!! Not helpful, I know! Some greenhouses will special order plants, or stalk kijiji...I do see them listed from time to time.

Thank you loneminx ! You might be surprised about your cats though...I have 5 of them! One is actually in the first picture I posted in her favourite spot...her bed on the windowsill! I found they leave most plants alone unless it looks like grass.. anything ‘palm-like’ has to be well out of their reach or it will be chewed! I would love a pony-tail palm (they are gorgeous!!) but am out of places out of their reach at the moment!!

Well my aloe has been chewed up a bit and I had a Venus flytrap last year that was completely eaten down to the dirt lol. I've lost multiple spider plants in the past although that's less surprising than the others! I just don't really trust them now!

It's really only the one that I have to worry about these days, so in the future I will hopefully have a bit more greenery inside .

ETA: I have four! I am glad I'm not the only one who has more than a few lol.

I sort of want a fly trap but I’m worried it’s too much commitment if that makes sense... where would I get the flies from...

It genuinely makes me feel super happy to look at other people’s plants and my own lol

Harder to see her blended in but it's doing well in the felt planter I made for it funny as it's always wet. My favorite though as well are the earth stars and they get very pink in bright light as they were dark green.

My stupid cat that eats things he should certainly not eat lol.

And we never fed it flies actually - we had fruit flies that it did catch on occasion, but otherwise we'd take bugs that were trapped in the glass on our porch and give them as offerings .

LOL I just asked in a houseplant fb group [where to get one in canada] and someone else said their cat ate theirs after 3 days as well

my next plant I get will be a fly trap!!! (I also sort of want a prayer plant)

I never got around to repotting it because it didn't live long enough. They naturally grow in boggy environments and I think it came full of peat moss and something else.

What is wrong with these cats eating carnivorous plants??

I certainly hope yours fares better!

So cool how quickly they move!

I gotta get my hands on these. I bought my brother one for Christmas... I wish I kept it!! Lol

Back to carnivorous plants...I just watched a vid that says you can feed them fish food!! Weird right? The girl feed it the classic betta pellet... I wonder if they’d take frozen bloodworms! Lol

OH! I remember reading that! You just have to soften the pellet up and stimulate the cilia so it thinks there's an insect crawling inside! And I bet it would take bloodworms too. So weird.

That video reminded me.....I also have a Rose of Jericho resurrection fern. They dry up into little tumbleweed looking things but then open up and get green with water. Mine is currently dried out. I should water it....

*and a bonus picture of me with my cat after his walk*

The African violet looked worse before I watered it, it was discounted to 2 dollars and seems like a cult favourite, so... why not? It looks super bad right now, but it’s still alive. Rescuing plants is a lot less emotionally tolling than rescuing bettas :/

And I got a needlepoint ivy since it looks so cool. I have previously killed an English ivy, but I didn’t really take care of it (oops)

Congratulations on your rescues! I hope they keep improving for you! I love violets but always heard they were hard to keep. My grandma always had beautiful ones but growing up my mom and I never kept them alive lol.

I went shopping at 3 (THREE!) stores looking for a little pilea pancake/Chinese money/ whatever other names it goes by plant. Nowhere. I did however find a "friendship plant" pilea and a ruby cascade peperomia. No pictures but I was excited for something I was looking for.

I really need to buy cute little pots to put everything I have in.

I’m hoping I can keep them alive too!! I’m really excited about my bargain plant.
Would love see pics of your new guys if u get around to taking them later (keep this thread going LOL)

The ruby cascade looks so cool!! I’ve never seen that one before. I would’ve bought that too. Good luck on your circle plant search!! I keep giving babies away to friends in hope that they give them away and make them much more common. I’m still on the hunt for the Venus fly trap

If your friendship plant is the pilea involucrata, I have that one too in my huge jar terrarium!! When you google “good terrarium plants” they are the first that comes up

AND thanks about Leo!! I love him lol
He begs to go out for walks, he’s so funny. But honestly, today was too wet for him so he just sat on my shoulders and I walked around my building. Neighbours probably think I’m insane but I don’t really care!!

I keep seeing your huge terrarium pop up . That is so cool. I love that jar! And yes, it is that one! I love the leaves on it.

I made terrariums early January (one for each family member, mine already had a plant die in it and only has a fern and moss in it now, my husband's has two different ferns and moss, and my son's just has moss). I am good at keeping the moss alive anyways. I used potting mix from outside and apparently brought in baby slugs into the planted ones. Then I felt bad about throwing them outside and killing them in the middle of winter so I transferred the one to my son's and fed it carrots. My husband's slug was just rehomed straight to the outdoors when he finally caught it. It was a good learning experience...... And now I am certain that I prefer snails lol.

Anyways, sorry about that tangent.

Leo is gorgeous. Your neighbors should be grateful you take him out for their viewing pleasure!

I need to try to remember to take pictures of things. And yes we should keep this thread going!

Lol I got a present today !!
The symmetry on my shelf was bothering my boyfriend so much he offered to buy me a new plant.
Great. Now 4 on top, 4 on bottom. Don’t tell him but I’m totally not going to bother keeping the symmetry, that’s crazy. Type A personalities are a little bit interesting at times.... anyways I got a new pothos.

As long as you have the right amount of layers and thickness of layers molding shouldn’t be a problem.

It had a bit of biofilm at first growing since I had the cap loosely on instead of completely off
I think I should’ve put less water in to start
Not sure when I’ll decided to close it off, it I will do that now I’m all nervous
I just want to be like this guy lol
