One thing you love about fishkeeping!

Hi guys!
I just finished a lot of work on my tanks and I'm really enjoying the hobby right now!!
So I thought we should just sit back and enjoy the fish we spend hours taking care of.
What's one thing you really like about fishkeeping? And maybe a picture of your favorite fish or tank! I'll go first:
I actually just love the maintenance side of it. I put it off as long as I can but when I finally get around to it, it's really relaxing to just take care of something. ;)
Here's my 40gallon, I just replaced the substrate and added a ton of new plants!

I like doing maintenance and I also like just watching the fish's personality.

I like watching my plecos do pleco things, as mine so far really have not been shy at all. Even the little idiots(danios) are fun to watch crash into each other at feeding time. Also like checking on my fry and watching them grow and develop. Also always interested to see if my wee little nerite is hitch-hiking on another snail or not.

What do you guys think is the number of fish that actually go to a good home vs. the millions of species bred and wild caught for the hobby? I'm certain we all know that number and percentage is disappointingly low, albiet not surprising. I guess for me it's knowing that the small percentage that are kept properly are some under my care. Most of my fish that have passed away reached their upper lifespans, and I have one currently going past that. I like knowing that they have reached their fullest potential before passing on as a result of proper and disciplined husbandry. In our hobby, not many aquatic pets receive that.

Love this idea for a thread! My favorite thing is probably seeing my plants grow or watching my fish eat! I also enjoy the maintenance aspect of keeping tanks, it’s very therapeutic. I love being able to take time out my day to care for my fish, it feels healing for me as well.

Here’s my betta Iris!

Just giving the fish the best environment possible, and yea, there is nothing like kicking back with a cold one after a deep cleaning.

While cleaning I found two random fry, now in breeder box

I also love to learn how complex they are, and just talk about them. And watching them eat is always super fun.

I like the challenges that fish and their aquariums tend to throw at me...usually when least expected and moments after a water change.

From dealing with silly fishy squabbles and basic fishy misbehaviour & downright mischief to emergency rescaping and replumbing

There is never a dull moment with keeping fish, you learn constantly and you realise (often late in life) that you actually have way more patience than you ever thought possible.

I find maintenance quite therapeutic but I'm most grateful for the constant learning experience. In such a small amount of time, fishkeeping has taught me valuable lessons that go beyond the aquarium. I've been so pleasantly humbled by it all and feel it's made me a better human being.
My 29g community tank is pictured below. I'm not ashamed to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with it.

I love the nature side of it and how can have like a piece of the wild in a glass box and I also like the breeding side of it and how you can create such a natural environment that they breed

I like your user pic. My boss knows Tyler and his parents. She got me into their music. I'm not as into the newer album - but I like "Bounce Man" and "Choker" a lot. Some of my favorite songs are off their first 2 albums.

Sounds weird, but I originally went into fishkeeping for a sense of purpose since I was freshly graduated and the feeling of not having anything due was driving me crazy. It feels really rewarding to see your fish grow and recognize you and follow your movements (in hopes of getting extra food, but still!). Also I think the cleaning aspect is very therapeutic and there’s nothing better than seeing a crystal clear tank and happy fishies :)

I think I enjoy Aquascaping the most, sometimes just rearranging a few plants & watching the fish interact with their new view is great!

Feeding plecos

& surprise fry or eggs, that's always exciting!

My fish breed a lot. I like to sell the offspring locally for small money. Especially shrimps. I like the glance in their eyes when kids or even old man see their new fish or shrimp for the first time.

The greatest joy I have with fishkeeping is probably observing fish interacting with others and the environment, no matter what the interaction is.

That's cool! I'm also a fan of their older music. Vessel and self titled are so good! How in the world does your boss know him that's crazy! :)

I'm a teacher and she's my principal. Tyler's dad was a principal also (although not in a public school like me but a school called Worthington Christian). I think that's how she knows the family but I'm not positive.

A few of my favorites are Holding Onto You, Trees and Goner.

How come we like/love tank maintenance, but it is such a chore to get the vacuum out or clean the toilet?
I have to admit I just love to sit in front of the tank and let it mesmerize me. I feel all the stress of work and life just bleeds away....and relaxation sets in. The Neons and Pandas are incredible active today, wonder if the new big air pump with higher water agitation has something to do with it

Well because vacuuming sucks. And toilets? Come on, who in the world would want to plunge into the world of toilets?

One thing you love about fishkeeping!

Well, it has brought me to a position in an international network within the serious aquarium scene. I'm very privileged and honoured to be in that position. I've got a selfmade name within the international aquarium scene. And I'm proud to have done this all by myself. And I like to share my knowledge with others.

only one? how about a short list

sounds like a babbling brook
love watching their interactions with each other
love watching them eat
love all the plants growing all over my tank
love when I approach the tank and they all come to the front begging for food
love when they nip my fingers
love when the lights come on very dim and slightly pink and slowly brighten while I sip
coffee and watch the fish until wakefulness sets in
love when the lights dim down to a dark blue and the fish and I settle in for the night
love when they give me eggs
love with the eggs hatch
love watching them grow up
love how active my Sterbai corys become after a water change

just a few things I love about Fishkeeping

During the summer months one end of my tank can get morning sun if I allow it, and I too like how it looks. But I worry it could harm my fishes eyes if they stare into the sun. Maybe this is an unfounded concern?

I’m loving the fact that all the hard work and worrying I put in to fishless cycling my first tank paid off. it took 7 weeks and my Ember Tetras are doing great. Watching them, healthy and happy is so gratifying! I love all the maintenance as well.
