That's pretty good, just remember to calculate in the cost of a hood/filter when thinking of a total setup cost. My local walmart carries 10 gallon bare tanks for about 11 dollars, however the prices of the larger tanks rise substantially. It still may be more cost efficient to buy a complete tank kit, depending on what kind of filtration one goes with.

This is especially good if some one's tank sprung a leak and they still have the hood and other accessories.

 

Yeah, I meant to add that this is only a great price when it comes to a 29 gallon tank and more. I have seen great prices on filters and such on craigslist though. Also, some people have filters and hoods laying around because of when they upgrade tanks.

 

I stoped by Petco today to buy a magnetic scrubber, I picked up that and saw a sign that said 1 dollar per gallon tank sale, idk if this is a missourI thing or not, I picked up a 10 gallon for my betta. I also bought a 20 gallon filter for my 20 tall, Ill put the filter that is on now on the 10.

It's nationwide.

There are plenty of exclusions though. The only tanks included in the sale are 10's, 20's (20H and 20 long), 29, 40BR, and I believe 55. If you're looking for anything else, you'll have to pay the normal prices.

 

Awww I wish I had a petco near me i'd so go and buy a huge tank!!

Yea mine has it too.......man I need more room in my apartment. Aqueon was also having a rebate going on for $5-$10 off certain filters/heaters. I wanna grab one but the cost of a lid/lighting is almost what I would pay for the tank, and twice that for a stand.

 

Yep its just glass tanks, that are, 5.5, 10, 20L&H, 29, 40, and 55, btw that's all they sell at my store, nothing larger. Yep there is no hood, I think ill just buy that from walmart and get some better bulbs. Yep, everyone is right!

also, I got a dual 15wt hood at walmart for 20 dollars. It was a good buy compared to Petcos deluxe was 34 dollars,

I am really tempted to pick of a 40 breeder. I was just telling my wife yesterday while we were at petsmart how much I love the depth of the 40 breeder vs. our 55.

I couldn't agree more. I have a 50 breeder as a reef tank (same footprint as 40BR, but taller), and I opted to have the back drilled rather than purchase a reef ready 55. The footprint of the 55 just no longer appeals to me. Why don't you pick one up? Maybe you could upgrade and sell a smaller tank to make up for some of the cost.

yep that's what I needed was a hood, I had left over gravel and plus the gravel already in the tank I had

I heard that someone bought like a dozen or so 40b until the store ran out in one of the petco in one of the cities not to far from where I live. lol

wow. I bought 16 40b's used, already predrilled for a central filtration unit. I didn't plan on getting so many but I couldn't pass the price up, last I checked, the guy still has several dozen left @ 10 dollars each.

 

Just thought I'd post this. Both the petco's in my area are out of 40b's, but I got a rain check for one. The manager that signed it said that they weren't supposed to be doing rain checks, but since the cashier had already told me yes and written it up, he would sign it. So if they are out of your size, may want to try and get a rain check, you just may get lucky!

If you are looking for a ten gallon setup with everything the petsmart near me is selling the tank hood and free aqueon filter for 22.59$. I set up my tiger barb tank for less than 40$.

No decorations other than gravel were purchased. It would be roughly 50$ if you wanted to get some of the compact fluorescent bulbs. Still a great deal.

I also got a ten gallon from petco. Too bad they can't sell me a 90 or 125.

That's a dream garage for me. That's probably my favorite sized tank. LOVE 40B's. Thinking about driving an hour to the nearest petco just to pick 1+ up....and maybe some 20s. You enablers!!

My friend at Petco just told me today that they will have their $ 1.00 a gallon tank sale again around August 29, 2010. So start saving up..

Yes I know they just had one but I had her confirm it with the store manager.

Our petco had their sale in June. They said it's a once a year thing.
I hope not. I'd love another 20 long.

 

Again with missing this sale! GAH! I wanted a 20gL, but wasn't able to get one until right after their last sale ended. So, I bought one at Petsmart for $38. Meh!

 

I'm trying to find a 40L, I don't think Petco stocks those, does anyone know?

 

I was told by the owner of a lfs that 40L are only available used now, and only 40 B are available new.
