Need Help with Aquascape Designs? How about this;

Greetings! This is JLAquatics here. I started this thread in regards to an Aquascape Design Service Idea. I have seen some members that are not happy about their own planted tank setups lately. We do not want that, as a planted aquarium should be enjoyed the most by the designer! Even though I created this article below pertaining to aquascaping tips I used;
Aquascaping Tips and Tricks for a Beginner
I feel that many of us out there are much more visual learners that an article could only do so much. I learned how to make my own aquascapes with visual tips after all! Thus, I want to contribute more to Fishlore by offering to make photoshop mockup aquarium designs for people via pm. This would allow people to get a visual of what I picture with my own suggestions and suggestions from other members.

This technique would work really well with a hardscape and substrate already in place, in which you would take a picture of and save. You would then pm me and send me that picture of your hardscape and your whole aquarium that is level. You would then tell me what plants/plant setup you think you would like in your aquarium and hear some of my own suggestions. Once you officially decide on the mockup aquarium design, I will get to work in order to show you a visual of what the new tank might look like fully planted.

I actually did this same exact thing with my own 10 gallon aquascape a few weeks before I set it up. I didn't know what to expect with the actual setup.

I first used this image of the hardscape elements in the 10g as a base;

I then created this image in photoshop, which is how I originally intended for the completed aquarium to look like and how I was going to plant everything. (Note: For newbies that are not experts with plant types I will label everything in the image as well so you know where to plant each different plant)

The Real Tank just 2.5 weeks later! It actually turned out very similar to the mock-up, despite several of the plants not growing in completely yet! (Note: Ended up not adding the Tiger Lotus, they didn't have any available)

Other Notes:
1. You must be an active member to use the pm feature on Fishlore.
2. This service would be offered free of charge without a doubt!
3. This assumes you already have a hardscape layout figured out. If you don't that is fine. We just need to figure that out first before making the Scape Planner Mockup.
4. When sending me a pm, make sure you let me know that you need aquascape suggestions.
5. Pictures and more Pictures: Pictures sent to me will make the process much easier for both you and I
6. Availability may be limited at times. I will try my best to keep up, but I will keep you updated on everything.

Fellow Fishlorians, I would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions on something like this! If you think this would be a good or bad service to offer, let me know! I just appreciate Fishlore with all you amazing members and I feel I just haven't done enough so far (don't get me wrong though, I would absolutely love to do something like this). I will value each and every opinion given, but please just be respectful.

I might try this in the future. When I move out and have my own tanks (that I get to make my own decisions about) I want no more fake plants, no more fake substrate, no more mixing fish from different continents and no more dense stocking. I would like to work with you then because you’re an amazing scaper. Well done again, JLAquatics! :happy:

If its something you are passionate about and enjoy doing, and you have the opportunity to help others at the same time, why not? Sounds like a great idea.

That's very generous.
Rather than in private why not inthe tank builds section so members can see the progress? That would be pretty neat.

That is indeed a good point. However, I think it would be useful if I would be tagged somehow and people were made aware of my offer. The reason i suggested a pm in the first place was so that members knew exactly who to go to with this offer. I just fear that this idea will be forgotten after a while and no one will tag me to help in the normal build thread section. Plus, they would have to start the post and remember to tag me right away as some of the suggestions start coming in. Thank you so much for your imput, Lucy!

So without a build thread or this thread how are people going to know to Pm you either? Its the same either way. I agree with Lucy make it public so everyone can see your talents.

You can also click the "watch" button on forums like the build forum and you will get notified when new posts are made. Yeah rather than pm it would be cool to see the advice on the public boards so more can benefit from it.
