Canister filter for 35 gallon tank (130litres)

Hi, I’ve had this 35 gallon set up for about 4 months and my two sponge filters and HOB (aqua clear 800 I think) is not cutting it. I have loads of guppies and plecos and they simply can’t turn the water around fast enough.

I am looking for a cheap canister filter (maybe sun sun) but I’m not sure what to get. It is 45 cm tall 35 cm wide and 90cm long.

Hi! I looked to see what was available for your size tank on Amazon and found a bunch of candidates. I guess it all depends on your definition of "cheap" canister filter. LOL

I finally decided on one that I would buy if I was in your shoes. It is reasonably cheap and has a more than sufficient water flow for a thirty gal tank. I don't want to post the Amazon link here - but if you go to Amazon and search "Polar Aurora Free Media 265GPH / 370GPH / 525GPH External Aquarium Filter with Builtin Pump Kit Canister" you can read about it.

The BN plecostomus likes veggies to be available constantly, so high filtration is probably a good idea. In case he doesn't eat it all.

I had a look it’s unavailable in Australia but I can find one similar on eBay

 

In Australia the Aqua One filters are common and easy to get parts for. They are probably the cheapest brand filters that I would buy although they are not super cheap. You should be able to get an Aqua One Nautilus 1100 for around $160 AUD.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, someone is selling one second hand but I’m. It sure if I should get it?
I’m actually going to get one of the Aqua One Ocellaris 1400 or 850 as the 1400 is only $150 AUD

Depends on how you set it up. You can usually angle the outlet and baffle the flow using tank walls, decor etc. Also you won’t get 1400 lph. That’s just the manufacturer rating. In practice it will probably be closer to 900.
