Zebra Netrite above waterline

Hello
I have 3 zebra Netrites in a 75 gal tank. Two stay low in the tank and munch on algae, the third bee-lines to the surface where it just sits motionless. At first I thought maybe he didn't like my tanks water, but if that was the case wouldn't all three snails be trying to leave the water? Its just the one snail that does this. I know they can survive out of water for quite awhile and I'm not too worried about him, I just would like y'alls opinion on the matter.

Mine do the same thing sometimes. Once in awhile, I open the hood and a nerite swings up with it from the inside.

I have 4 zebras that are always working on algae and an olive nerite that does the same thing. He sits out of the water and I never see him move. I did research and it turns out the olive and a few others just do that. Maybe you have one that does as well.

Welcome to nerites! They do stuff like that all the time. I had one that I think buried itself in my gravel too so watch out for that. Mine have been pouting a few days since I switched to sand.

THESE SNAILS ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

I have two 75 gal tanks, I put 3 Netrites in each tank to help with some algae. They seem to be making short work of the algae but Iv become obsessed with knowing where the snails are!!! I spend 10 minutes searching the tank trying to locate them I'm afraid they will A) escape B) fall over get stuck upside down and die. (I woke up this morning to one upside down) By the time I find all 3 in the second tank I look back to the first tank and they moved ...fast little buggers.

I supose I should try and forget about them and really only look for them once a day. (side note/question: Can they right themselves if they are upside down? or is that a real threat to them?)

I actually have a video of one of my nerites "righting himself". He was in a tank all by himself...so he was not vulnerable to anything...so I just left him upside down to see if he could do it. LOL It was amazing to watch!

It takes a long time to right themselves....and they are super vulnerable during the entire process. So unless they are all alone...they are in danger. They have to come out of their shell pretty far to pull it off!

I do think it is smart to just check on them once a day.....but Don't drive yourself crazy worrying about them.

One tank has 11 tiger barbs that I think could make a quick snack of my snail if it was upside down. So far they have ignored the snails tho so yay haha.

Only my Zebra and Tiger Nerites do this. I've had them for several years and they have been found out of the tank, on the floor or otherwise in the HOB.
Only one has died from being out of the water too long ( was hidden behind the tank and probably at least a week, maybe more since I only do a water change every 2 weeks )

My Bumblebees and Horned Nerites ( I have 50 + of them ) NEVER go out of the water. When I do a water change, they always fall back in to the water.

Welcome to the crazy world of Nerites!

My one zebra nerite literally sticks himself upside-down on a lid, when it open's, he catapults into outer space and lands (thankfully) on the carpet!!
but my little horned bumblebee nerite is usually always below the waterline, doing everything more sensible than it's much bigger friend.... he obviously has the bigger brains despite his size.

I have one zebra nerite that refuses to stay in the water. In fact, he makes a bee line up the filter input every chance he gets and I find him inside the filter constantly. The others stay peaceful inside the tank, but this guy is a dare devil. You may just have one with a little more personality than the rest lol
