Seems to be some confusion on what temp to keep Zebra Danios. I've always and currently keep them at 70-72F. I was wondering what's everyone opinion/eperience with their Zebra Danios?

When I first started in the the hobby, at about 8 years old I had 3 Zebras. First I kept themat 76°. Then one day I was reading TFH magazine, and read that tropical fish should be kept at 78-80°. But the article at the time didn't mention depending where the fish come from. So I uped my temp to 80. Immediately they became much more active. They lived for about 6 years or so. I'm not sure if that is their normal life span, but boy did I love those fish.
Knowing what I know now, I would more than likely keep them between 72-75°.

Makes sense I've always kept mine in the lower 70s, today I met a breeder that keeps his Danios at around 78F , he breeds them and has a giant school school in a show tank at that temp, he told me their as heatly as could be. I've seen many people here keep them in the high 70s and I've also read a few other forums with comments that also keep them in the high 70s.

They were definitely healthy, and it also seems that they had better color. They had a nice purplish color to them.

I keep mine at 74 and they seem happy. I looked into this as well when I first got mine. They are kept at 78 for breeding so unless you want to breed them keep them in cooler temperature water. Danios range is I think 65-75 from what I have read. Different fish like different temperatures. They all have a range that they flourish in. You can keep them at different ranges but they may not live as long. Check out the fish section of the forums. They have a lot of good info in there for different types of fish

I currently haave some with my oddessa barbs. The tank is unheated and can range anywhere in the mid 60s in the winter up to the mid 70s in the summer and have had them both for a good 4 years so

Thanks , ya that's right 65F-75F is their temp range , I was more just wondering as to why so many people keep them in the high 70s, I believe they should be kept in the low 70s. Ive been keeping fish for over 10 years but when it comes to the Zebra danio I feel like there's always some confusion with their temps.

just curious do you see any differences from when the temp is colder to when it's warmer?

If they are kept at 78 for best breeding that's probably the temp they prefer.
