Yoyo loach stock question

I have a 40 gallon tank with not a lot of fish in it and I was wondering what my stocking options could look like.
I have 1 pleco, 4 yoyo loaches, and 4 black skirt tetras in the tank right now but I wanted to know how many more yoyo's can I add without overstocking it. The yoyo's are my favorite in there and I know they prefer bigger schools than the 4 I have now and I love watching groups of fish interact with each other. I do plan on getting a bigger tank later on next year since they grow slow so there's not a massive rush to get it.

Welcome to the forum.

What species of pleco do you have? Some can grow to close to two feet in length.

Actually, I'd worry less about boosting your yoyo group and add to your tetra school. They should have at least 6, but 8 is better.

I have a common pleco. I would get more of these but the ones I have now are the tank bullies even with the little fish I have in there. They tried to pick on the pleco once but that didnt end well for them. I don't want to get more of the black skirt because every fish in my tank has black on it one way or another so I would be willing to get another fish that brought color to the tank and could hold its own if the tetra's decide that they dislike them.

HI Meckle,

Please read this profile on Common pleco:

https://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-Pleco.htm

The reason why they are picking on the other fish can be mainly for a couple reason:

1) Tetras not stock properly will be nippy/aggressive

2) Inadequate space.

Yeah, you have to rehome that common pleco, the sooner the better.
