YouTube misinformation problems

Tramp

Hi Bubblers.
Had something on my mind since 1987 that's when I brought home my first aquarium.
Went through many educational changes since back then and now I'm here.
Wherever that is
The issue of Table salt came up over and over again and again.
I thought it was pretty much done and put away.
But it's starting up again, this debate on Table Salt in the aquarium.
It's the newbies I feel for as they launch their YouTube and watch and learn and then come across the dreaded misinformation videos.
Like the recent one on a channel.
It's claimed on the video..there's absolutely no difference between..
Aquarium salt, Marine mix Salt and Table Salt.
The lecture given seems at first glance well rehearsed and polished.
But the info is tantamount to throwing a Hanibal Lector with a hand grenade into your tank.

Whenever I make a video I try to not sound like an expert, airing on the ..it's just my opinion style.
But there are some pretty bad self opinionated types on the Tube now.
Sorry to bang on about this but is was ..pinching me lol

Welcome to fishlore :)

Agreed sometimes yt has some pretty weird content, i hate seeing those "youtube families" or "animal fun" type videos who get like 10 goldfish and put them in a 2 gallon betta bowl or "i rescued these fish from ..." and the people get the fish and dump them in a bowl not cycled, no filter etc... Sometimes i wonder if youtube monitors videos being published.... the public is being ill-informed on fish keeping...

On a positive note, nice tank what fish do you have in it??

Peter :)

The tank was a 4×2×2ft Severum set-up.run on a power-head run UGF from way back then lol.
Are members allowed to link their YouTube Channels on here?

Sorry to re-pinch you, but I don’t think this is limited to YouTube or even the internet more generally. YouTube (and the internet more generally) has just made the self-proclaimed experts more readily available to us.

Welcome to Fishlore, yes you may link to your channel in your signature as long as you give a link back to Fishlore but you may not use Fishlore to actively promote your channel.

Thanks yes I understand your rules no problems there.
Mines only a small channel I set up for family and pals, the channel's so small...if you stepped on it, you wouldn't hear the squeak.
Third post. I think.
About Auto-Scaping. Couple of shots of the early stages of my method
Thanks
Hi again..here's my family/pals channel.
Hope I pasted it in the right place.

Welcome to Fishlore! Nice tank and fish! :)

Welcome to the forum. I agree about the misinformation on YouTube, and it's not restricted to the aquarium hobby. There are quite a few instructional videos there about learning the software I use at work. Some are posted by people who don't know nearly as much as they think they do.
