Well, there are several (ok a LOT of) tanks I would like to have sometime, whether in the new future or not until I'm grown up. What tanks/fish would you guys all like to have once you had the time/money/space?? (small~5-15g, medium~15-30g, large~>30g)

1. Ghostie tank
small unheated
Ghost Shrimp, maybe Hillstream Loaches

2. Betta tank
small planted tropical
male Betta, Otos/Cories

3. coldwater tank
medium unheated
White Clouds, Zebra/Leopard Danios, Hillstream Loaches

4. livebearer tank
medium planted tropical
Guppies, Platys, Swords, and fry

5. Angel tank
medium-large planted tropical
Angels--breeding pair(s), Harlequins, maybe various loaches

6. tetra tank
large planted tropical
various tetras--such as Neons, Glowlights, Black Neons, Lemons, Rummy Noses, etc., Hatchets, Otos, various Cories

7. Oscar tank
large tropical
Oscar or similar large Americal Cichlid, Pleco

Well...my hands are getting tired from typing!! Now it's your turn! If you don't have any ideas for specific tanks, just list some fish you would like to have in the future.

Don't let me forget the tank I want for my b-day...
20g planted tropical
4 Otos, 4 female Bettas, 6 Cardinal Tetras

I'll let you know if I get it or not!
Oh yes, and feel free to offer suggestions for tanks 5 and 7.

2) Angelfish tank
gallons ?
Thouroughly planted, driftwood
same as 0morrokh, breeding pair of angels and some cories.

3) Goldfish (fancy)
55 gallons
4-5 fancy goldfish, hillstream loach

4) Jack Dempsey tank
55 gallons? however big it has to be...
Jack Dempsey fish, feeders

5) Breeding Like Rabbits tank
as big as possible
lots of male/female guppies, platys, and swordtails. Cories too.

and lots more...

plus 70 bajillion betta tanks, 3-5 gallons, with the 5 gallons having ottos too. I'll probably breed bettas

Omorrokh, that's a good post My only future aquatic dream is to have a tank sized anywhere from 75-125 gallons, when I have my own place - so that I don't have to move the tank anywhere. Well, say 125 gallons This tank will be very expensive but it'll be worth the price. I am planning to set aside a large amount of money for it so that when I get my hands on the setup, it will be a real good one. OK, it will definitely be DENSELY planted with a HO or VHO lighting system (depending on the types of plants). Not only will it have plants but it'll also have driftwood and rocks. I am already reading books on aquascaping and on maintaining planted tanks - so that when I am ready to get the tank, I'll know exactly what to get and what to do. I will be getting an aquarium-safe soil as it is the best possible medium that plants can grow well in. Natural soil contains the best mix of nutrients and the best rooting medium for soil-rooting plants. One book I am reading explains how to create a densely planted tank, with good lighting system, that does not require any CO2 injections - and this is what I'll try to re-create. As for fish, I have not decided yet, but if the conditions will be right I'd like to get Discus for the tank - plus any species that I like that also will be compatible with Discus. It will be a lot of work with a 125G densely planted tank and with Discus - but I am more than willing to work on it - love the hobby that much! However, a densely planted tank that is well balanced ecologically may not at all be hard to maintain. For those who'd like to know more about how to maintain a planted tank without CO2 injections and where plants thrive, I really recommend "Ecology of the Planted Aquarium: A Practical Manual and Scientific Treatise for the Home Aquarist" by Diana L. Walstad.

I have a twenty gallon I need to stock up on, taking all suggestions!

If you're trying to suggest for me, I really like Gouramis, cories, otos... Not a huge fan of neon/glo tetras but maybe open for other tetras (I probably haven't seen them before, lol).

Or, build your own dream 20 gallon tank ;>

Have fun!

edit: Just fell in love with sparkling gouramis *_*

g'morning Paprika
Sparkling Gourami's are a nice choice, as they are very peaceful fish and remain small. I would suggest checking out the honey Gourami's as well. They also remain small and are peaceful fish. The otos are cute fish and serve a great purpose in new tanks when they start to develop the brown diatoms, as the oto's do love to eat it. I would wait on the oto's for awhile before adding them to a tank tho. Without any algae or diatoms to eat you may loose them.
For a twenty gal tank, I would suggest a stock of:
2 Sparking Gourami's
3 Honey Gourami's
3 corys.
5 neons
I read that you don't really care for neons, but a school of them swimming around together is such fun to watch, plus they would add a different & colorful peaceful fish for your tank.

I can't help you since I don't know about Gourami's.
However you did ask for what I would do so:
20 gal, heavily planted. Stocked: 1 paradise fish + Cory school. OR 1 paradise fish with tiger barbs OR just tiger barbs.
(Paradise fish are really aggressive so tanks mates would need to be able to hold their own.)

I would do a species only tank of sparkling gouramis and both floating and planted vegetation. I love my shrimp so I would have a clan of ghost shrimp. I just checked them out after reading how you were officially in love with them and discovered that Bettas are related to gouramis. The sparkling gouramis are shaped a lot like Bettas. Cute fish!

Well, I'm going to have a 20 gal to do whatever with in a few months hopefully...
And I'm going to put a figure 8 puffer in there! ;D
I'm so excited!

I'm a fan of Honey Dwarf Gouramis. Mine is so friendly that he makes cleaning the tank a pain. He is always swimming up near my hands while I'm vacuuming the gravel or what not.

Maybe something like 1 honey dwarf, 6 bloodfin tetras and 3 ottos? I have close to that. I see you don't like neons, but those go with gouramis really well too (I actually have cardinals, close to neons but I like them much better)

Ottos will keep the tank clean and the white/silver/green on the tetras is really nice as they dart around while the bright gourami just chills.

If you have a tall tank this probably wouldnt work though because the bloodfins are so active and would like more swimming room.

But if this were me, I might be thinking about some dividers and 3-4 betta boys~! that's my next thing.

Hey, I just looked at the sparkling gouramis. I have to say I like them more than the dwarf and similar-looking gouramis.
(I'm not getting one though still )

I just got a 29 gallon tank, and obviously I'm a huge fan of gouramis, so you might want to check out my aquarium info for some ideas as well. I don't have in cories in that tank...they're all in the 55 upstairs. The sparkling gouramis look to be gorgeous fish...I wish I could find them where I live! You might want to look into the licorice gourami as well...from what I can tell they look very similar and have a very peaceful temperament as well.

You mentioned other tetra suggestions...the red eyes are getting along wonderfully with my dwarfs. You might want to veer away from the diamonds...they sometimes try to chase my dwarfs, but the dwarfs will keep them in line...from what I've read about sparkling gouramis they won't necessarily stand up for themselves like that. I'm also a big fan of rummynose tetras even though I haven't kept them...wonderful splash of color and I think they have a similar temperament to the red-eyes, although I could be mistaken on that. Good luck with your tank!

She could have only one goldfish though.

I'd do a planted tank with couple sparklings, hatchets otos and one flame dwarf to give color... + Shrimp.;D

I'm a gourami girl at heart too!

well if she wanted a cold water a 20 gal is big enough for a few yoyo's and a school of gold barbs(?). (I believe that they're cold water, I might be wrong though... online lists are vague about non-goldfish or koi cold water species)

4-5 dwarf puffers
2-3 otos
3-5 ghost shrimp
planted

Cut that down to 2-3 dwarf puffers and you'd be good to go
