Today when my son came home from 1st grade attached to his report card(btw for the 3rd report card straight A's!) was a permission slip for free dental care, including cleanings, floride application, and sealants and follow up care also dental education for the kids that don't know how to take proper care of their teeth. This is avalible to all the kids in his school that I know of right now. So even the kids w/o dental insurance, etc that the parents don't take tot he dentist will have it avalible, and convenent at the school.
I will not be participating, we have great dental insurance and he has his own dentist. I don't think its right for us to take advantage of the situation since he is already covered w/ dental insurance and parents that can afford the co-pays.
But I think its wonderful for the ones that really need it! Proof that some of our tax money is being used for a good thing. I wish they did this when I was in school! Of coarse though my dad was a coal miner and we had great insurance as well, so I got good dental care but people like my husband hasn't been to a dentist since he was 6. I can't talk him into it now that we do have insurance.
