Yesterday I found my mystery snail on the ground. I don't know how he got out but he did and he's still alive and well. Do you think he was looking for food and wasn't finding enough. I give him various flakes, veggie rounds, and now am trying lettuce, and will try more but it was really weird that he got out. Do you think he'l do it again?

Well, when Creamy got out for his walk on the wild side and nearly made it to the door about 20 feet away, he got out the next morning also and was trying to get under the entertainment center. The only reason I think he failed was there was not room enough for his shell to go under the thing. So I would say yes, given the opportunity, he will try it again.

I blocked it so there's no way he can get out anymore but he's ok now.

I really want to get some snails but it kinda scares me that they will get out and go walkabouts (or whatver it is snails do). Presumably if you have a lid on your tank, they won't escape?

I get pond snails on the cabinet my 5 gallon is on ALL THE TIME.

If you have a secure lid without holes, they won't be able to get through. Nothing to worry about

Mine never has tried to escape (prays earnestly, crosses fingers, touches wood, et al)

But yeah, they are not solely aquatic, they are capable of moving from one body of water to another for instance. And they can be surprisingly fast and agile.

Mystery snails leave the water to lay their eggs. Thus, if you want to breed them, you lower the water level a few inches in the tank. As far as I know, the snails will climb right out of the tank because there is nowhere IN the tank to lay their eggs (off course, it is pointless, since they don't have a mate... ) (correct me if I'm wrong about this...). Fortunately a day or two out of water does not harm them. Lucy, if you really want a snail, I wouldn't hesitate because you are scared of him escaping. Snails are awesome, and getting out of the tank won't kill a Mystery unless he is out for a really long time.

I'm more worries about it killing me with fright when I find it stuck to my face when I wake up or something....

LOL LUCY

I've had my mystery snails go on hikes, as well. Mine have traveled in a caravan to the carpet, where they closed up. Maybe they didn't like the texture.

I had that happen to me. My snail got out and I found it lying on its shell a few inches from the tank.I thought it was dead.
