Would You Buy Used Filters?

I just saw an AWESOME Eheim Canister Filter on eBay for $15... used :-\!

I've never been fond of anything used. Would you consider it? Why or why not? Pro's, con's?

I'm not sure I would buy a used filter from ebay because you don't know it works or not. If it doesn't it would be virtually impossible to get your money back. But I have bought used filters and been given used filters. Throw the media away, bleach the filter well, rinse and dechlorinate well. then use.

Those are my two main concerns: will it work? is it infected?

Thanks Butterfly!

Your welcome yeah just mix up a good bleach solution and let it sit in the main part of the filter, take all the parts out and soak them(about 15 min. is enough). Then rinse, rinse, rinse and then soak in extra strong dechlorinated water. I usually put it back together and let it run the dechored water through it for a bit. If you have media from a tank that is cycled you can use it to start the cycle with the new filter.
