EDIT; TITLE WAS MEANT TO SAY WOULD THIS FILTER BE GOOD. SORRY. AND I FORGOT TO ACTUALLY PUT IN THE LINK FOR THE FILTER I AM LOOKING AT. NOT A GOOD MORNING.

hey guys I am being given a 55 gallon tank with equipment, but it as an under gravel filter which I will need to replace.

would this be a good filter for my tank? has anyone heard of or used this type?
also is it a good deal?

any input or other recommendations would be great, thanks

I would go and by a new filter ASAP! Undergravel filters can trap wastes, harmful bacteria, and all other kinds of 'gunk" in your tank and IMO do much more harm then good.

And of course! Most anything free is a great deal, especially when it involves aquaria!

The only problem with a generic filter would be getting replacement parts. For example if an O-ring or impeller goes bad, then you won't be able to get one quickly and possibly won't be able to get a replacement at all.

By chance I have 3 Fluvals...Wouldn't have been my first choice but through good deals I use them. But, I can go to any LFS and get a replacement part if needed. I actually keep every replacement part on hand...Especially O-rings.

Yup, I ordered one very similar, also off Ebay. The seller happens to be local (seriously two miles from my house) and also sells parts, so I think I'll be okay there. As for turnover, I have hears for canisters 4x turnover is okay, provided that is real turnover and not just manufacturers claim.
I would gladly tell you how it works for me, but the tank it's going on is at least a week away, probably two.

thanks well given 4x turnover would be okay, and this tank is about 55 gallons, 1500lph sounds like more than enough, is it possible to have too much?
