Would it be possible to keep multiple (unpaired) angelfish together?

Or would they pair up over time and bully the other angels/other tankmates?
I'm thinking about a group of around 6 - mind you, never gonna get another tank in the near future, but just hypothetically.

Unless you somehow managed to get all one gender I think they would eventually pair up.

It al depends on tanksize

Yeah they would definitely pair up, if you did only 1 gender it would be a disaster waiting to happen

As DoubleDutch said, the tank size plays a roll in your question....

What size tank?

Say, if I had them in a 375l/100gal tank (150x50x50cm)?

You should be able to keep a school fine in there. Just heavily plant it and add lots of places they can claim as territories

Alright, thanks everyone! That's another tank for the imagination to dabble in once every few months

Different people have different experience. I have a 120g tank which is 4 feet long and 2 feet wide (similar to your 150x50). The first time i purchased 8 angels - a pair formed and all was fine till they reached sexual maturity. Then a pair formed and the female started killing off the others one by one.

Second time i purchased 4 black and 4 platinum - i split them into two groups of fours to grow out (29/20 gallon tanks). The blacks never bickered but one died (defective) and a second was a runt. Then a pair formed and i get rid of the rest. The platinum bickered for 3 months then settled into a pecking order then paired off. I got rid of the pair in the tank and moved the two pairs into the 120. The female platinum decided she prefer the black male; smashed the male platinum to little pieces and i moved him to the 29 for a couple of months and try to reintroduce him 2 or 3 times but she remember and each time smashed him to little pieces. I eventually gave him to the lfs because the 29 was too small for him. he was a magnificent fish but i didn't have any place with him. That left the 2 blacks and the female platinum. About once a month the female platinum beats up the female black but she is doing ok and finds refuge in the java forest. I kept 10 off springs from the female platinum and black male (this male wasn't actually one of the 4 black mentioned above he was a 5th i put with them and is not a true black). The 10 babies all got along with no bickering and i moved them back to the 120 with the parents and so far the parents are tolerating them. I did get rid of two of the babies - one i gave to the lfs and one got the whirls and well he wouldn't stop spinning). The 8 i have left (with the 3 adults) are pretty large now so i just have to see what happens when they reach sexual maturity. My guess is war will break out and i will have to give them to the lfs but maybe this time it will all work out. What do you think?

Say, if I had them in a 375l/100gal tank (150x50x50cm)?

jake37 I love me some Angelfish, grew up with a single pair in a 120 as a kid, but your whole post is why I don't keep them anymore (as many times as I've planned on trying again).
