Would I put the air stone into the sponge filter?

Yep! that has everything you need. And no, dont try to put an air stone into the sponge filter. That air pump has 2 outputs though so you could hook one up to the sponge filter and the other to an airstone.

I was thinking of doing that.... Maybe I could tuck it in inside a carpeting plants' carpet...
My scape is gonna be spider wood with a grey stone (seiryu stone or grey petrified wood) coming out of the back corner and hiding the sponge filter. I am going to have crypts, java fern, pearlweed, anubias, and some other plants.

You could put the air stone inside of the sponge filter strainer or outside. If you are going to put the air stone inside of the sponge filter the air stone with the air pump might be a tight squeeze or maybe it will fit. You can get a small 1 inch one If you are going to put the air stone inside of the sponge filter. But, overall you're pretty set.

Aquaneat Aquarium Sponge Filters are good and so are the Hikari Bacto-Surge foam filters
