Would a smaller breed of cichlid respond to hormone supplements?

Just out of curiosity, would an Oscar or at the least a smaller breed of cichlid respond to hormone supplements, I have read that sterility is a large risk but in terms of size gains or temperament, what would the effects be?

Hormones as in growth hormones? If so, the answer is yes. In fact, many far east fish farms use hormones to induce adult colors in juvenile fish. Sometimes a fish can look striking at the fish store and in in a few weeks they turn back to their drab juvenile colors.

Are these hormones specific to fish? Or would a human performance enhancer be suitable? my fear is that oil based is almost impossible to administer, which would leave a diluted tablet to do the job, however being as liver stress is caused by these, i'm worried this may outright kill the fish. I think I'll have to tread carefully talking about this on here.

I don't think anyone really knows except the Asian fish farmers that use them.

I've never of heard anyone using human performance enhancers on fish. What are you trying to achieve?

This is a first for me as well. I too would be interested in hearing what the goal is.

Size and color is what I'm looking for, however altering the temperament of the fish would be a massive gain, being able to have mixed species tanks would make life easier and fish keeping more enjoyable.

Size and color can be safely achieved through good husbandry, no need for added hormones. As for the temperaments, I don't think this is presently possible. Fish are wired to be the way they are. There's no getting around innate instinct

As I said this was all out of curiosity, I would never commit to anything without fully understanding it. Although another possible gain would be a forced breeding regime, alas this would most likely become cruel by shortening the fishes life. I'm always happy once I've reared a big, healthy fish and just thought it might be either a shortcut or a way of getting better results.

As the saying goes, the best way is the hard way. There's never an easy way out- with anything

Idon't think Human proformance enhncers(steroids) will work on fish.
If you google hormone induced spawning you get many results some even with product suggestions and methods. One such product has just been oked by the FDA. Don't know if an individual can buy it.

It's more fun for me to watch them go through their natural growth and spawnings induced by good food and environmental changes.
