Would a large ramshorn or mystery snail eat the algae?

my goldfish tank is starting to get algae from sitting where the sun shines in. If I keep the tank about 70 degrees would a large ramshorn or mystery snail eat the algae? or a nerite?

would Malaysian trumpet snails be fine in that temp?
how many would I need?

do they have large bioloads or are they sort of not considered part of the stock?

Would I need to add stuff for their shells? I have hard water.
is there anything that is bad for them which is not bad for fish?

I'm not sure what temp Nerites need, but lots of people keep Mysteries with Goldfish. They'l eat algae, to a point. It seems to me its up to the individual snail.

Ramshorns'll eat the algae, and may provide a snack to the Goldfish, once they become abundant.

MTS hang out in the substrate, so I don't think they'll really do what you want them to lol

I guess depending on how big your goldfish are, snails might do the trick. I can't keep any snails alive in my goldfish tank. They always get eaten up fast.
Maybe you should up your WPG and check/change the spectrum in your lighting. I used to have green hair algae in my tropical tank only because the light was getting old and the spectrum dying out. Once I bought a new bulb, the algae disappeared.

Oh, and to answer your question, a snail counts for 5 gallons of water.

I have sand in the tank. the goldies are pretty big, but the snails are also big. getting them from a local group person.

I actually don't have a hood on their tank, so no light.

IS there any plant I can have in there tank, they will no eat?

with sand in the tank you'll prob want MTS to help stir up the substrate anyways. I know they won't eat the algae but will help in other ways, and with a little over feeding they will have no problem keeping the population up while serving as a snack for the fish.

A plant that goldies won't eat? Umm. No.

Even if they don't eat the plant, when they graze, they will end up digging the plant up and it will go floating. I couldn't even keep a large Amazon Sword plant in my goldfish tank! It got totally destroyed!
Your best bet with a goldfish tank is to get an established java fern crop on a piece of driftwood and plop that in. Even if the goldies peck at it, it is grown into the driftwood and can handle it. Also, Java Fern has multiple ways of propagation, which helps it keep up with the destruction caused by goldies. There are seed pods under the leaves that can grow into another plant, or by rhizome. That is the only plant I can keep in my goldie tank.
Java Fern is also a low light plant, so it is easy to keep. But you really should get a good light for your tank. Not only do the live plants need it, but so do the fish. Just like us, fish receive vitamins from the light spectrum. If they don't get enough light, you will notice that they will start to lose their color.

If you were referring to the possibility of snails eating the plants,
the snails will probably focus on algae first before eating rotting plant parts.

nerites will eat algae....I would get a couple of those and see how they do. my goldie left the nerites alone

thanks guys.

I am going to get some mts for the sand and nerite, mystery, ramshorn for the algae.

The goldies get sun. I just don't have a light on the tank. there is a window behind them and in front of them. it is not direct sun so they are okay.

Oddly enough, I've never seen my ramshorns make a significant impact on algae reduction in the tank, and I believe that mysteries will ignore most types of algae altogether.

The same cannot be said for nerite snails, otherwise known as the lawn mowers of the aquarium.
