Never done a dry start before, just wondering if after the plant has carpeted how I want if it would require CO2 to maintain or just ferts. 3 gallon bowl (approx 10" tall), 2 inches of substrate, Finnex Stingray.

a co2 is always recommended. It just helps them grow better. I would say you should add co2, but I don't think you absolutely have to.

I know CO2 is always better and recommended for plant growth, but would it be required in this case to maintain the carpet?

Yes. In a dry start they have unlimited CO2. They get used to that, then when you transition to flooded they don't have unlimited anymore. With usual dry starts you inject tons of CO2 when you first flood, then start slowly stepping down to usual levels

Agree with above, all plants have loads of CO2 during a drystart - that's why drystarts are so encouraged.
