Worst part of fish keeping?

1) Wanting every kind of fish, but YOYR CANT HAVE THEM

2) When people who don't know anything about fish try to give you advice. Or when they don't believe you when you say bettas ACTUALLY need a filter and a heater.

Ex: A few weeks ago I was looking at the questions for the 3 section "Betta Falls" on Amazon or Petco or something, to see if I could possibly let someone know that that tank isn't suitable for a fish. One of the questions was:
"Can I put a Dwarf Gourami in one of the cubes?" So some background, the cubes are around 0.5G or 1Gish. No place for a heater, and the current is way too strong. Basically it's a fishkeeper's nightmare.
So anyway, the responses were-
1. Yes, that's fine. Just make sure they can't see each other cause they'll eat one another.
2. That'll be fine, just watch to make sure the fish is healthy so that they disease isn't carried to the next tank over.
3. Yes, a dwarf gourami is perfect for this tank.
4. You'll be fine with that fish. Those are good for a tank like that. The water is nice and filtered so they'll be happy.

I really wanted to punch something,
Not to mention, the other questions were:
Can I have 1 neon tetra in each cube?
Can I have a guppy in this?
Basically the answer we're what you'd expect. "Yeah, that's perfect." or "Since male guppies are small, you can have 3 in each compartment."

-_-

I was at a pet store the other day. A bunch of college girls were in there getting bettas for theI dorm rooms. One of them got some coral piece that was pretty sharp edged and it took up most of the space in her little cube for the betta. I was like "you know, your fish won't look very pretty for long with that sharp decor and small tank." Naturally, she blew me off. I was at least relieved when I heard an employee tell her she really needed a heater.

I’m sorry to hear that Gypsy, I know your a good fishkeeper, but even the best make mistakes. I think for most fishkeepers that are really into fishkeeping, there eventually will be a time that something like that happens unfortunately.

Take my situation for example, in my 65 I had 7 bosamanI rainbows, 13 series tetras, and a rainbow shark. Next day after t water change only the reainbiw shark and 3 bosamanis were alive and gasping for breath. And I honestly don’t know what happened. I can only assume I forgot the prime, but I believe I added it, so my next though is that perhaps when the tank overflowed(forgot about the python) it got rid of some of the prime I put in. Which isn’t very likely. What is likely is that I made a mistake and it’s worse because I’m not certain what it is so I can’t really learn from it. From the sounds of it you know what the mistake is and your doing your best to mend it and learn from it. I’m very sorry though, it’s awful when something like this happens.

Also for the thread, forgot to second the fishkeepers thing. They can get on my nerves more than any clueless fish-owner lol. Particularly when they give advice or judge when the OP never asked for it. I’ve seen people leave forums because of it.

I hate how taboo it is to keep native fish. If I’m following the law, don’t tell me what I can’t keep. I’m perplexed why people will freak out if I keep, say, a Tadpole madtom, a 2” catfish, when those same people will happily buy Amano shrimp which are also wild-caught, except caught by the thousands. Then they’re bagged and exported thousands of miles. Don’t tell me I can’t keep a 2” fish that is barely on anyones’ radar.

Suffering from the delusion that that next fish is all I need and then I'll be satisfied and have enough. 8 tanks later.

Thank you. I agree knowing what I did is a thousand times better than thinking I must’ve but don’t know what. In my case, I know better. I’m helping some peeps get together a proposal to get the ok and funding for M. Marinum (fish Tb) research. Dealing with those fish and taking swipes etc. I washed my hands before each and after each. Did the alcohol. But, before coming home, just did a quick wash. It was late so I just started feeding my 40 long. I never touch my aquariums without washing and sanitizing then washing again. Just this one time.

Yeah! Like saying the only apple snail I can take out of our waterways has to be dead. I know they’re not native. But I want one.

Unfortunately, it’s a university. They have to go through so many channels. The biggest stumbling block is getting the decision makers to see this study isn’t just looking at how many aquariums are affected and how many different symptoms there are but also the role M. Marinum is having in diseases like HITH. I’ve allowed them to use my aquarium as part of their pre-proposal.

Perfect next time I'm in southern Alberta I will check it out.
EDIT: MN stands for Minnesota not Montana.... Welcome to midnight reading. Only like 18 hours away. xD
