Working on a Cycling Template-Looking for Input

Good morning everyone. Dechi and I have been working on an emergency cycling template designed to help us gather as much information as we can so we can better help folks that need help getting their tank cycled. We need feedback from all of y'all. Please let us know if there is something we've missed. We need to work out any bugs before we present it to Mike for consideration. We will admit to a bit of plagiarism as we used most of the Emergency Fish Template as our guide.

What we have come up with so far is below.............All comments and/or suggestions are welcome.

Cycling template

If you are cycling a new tank or having ammonia/nitrite spikes, fill this emergency template (link to cycling template) by answering the questions in each segment.

These questions were specifically designed to make it easier for us to help you with your cycling problem. Copy the template and paste it into a new thread, and put your answers in plain text after each question.

Please begin copying the guide starting at the tank section below, and stop after the prompt for the detailed explanation paragraph at the foot of the template. Please answer all questions to the best of your ability. Also, please be sure to type your answers in standard text, (not bold, or italics), so when others are reading they will be able to easily distinguish your answers from the text of the template. Providing full and clear information in a way that is easy for others to understand is the best way to help us help you.

Note: Please create a new thread for your cycling problem, do not post directly here for help.

These questions were all designed to help us figure out the problem with your cycle, and it is crucial that you answer all of them, but please specify if you are unable to list the water parameters.

Copy the template starting below the dotted line, and stop at the top of the line at the bottom of this template.

You might want to add “please explain” to this part. Saying “I’m intermediate” sounds a bit vague, eh?

I’m loving this template!

Thank you. We will give this some thought and see if we can add more clarification to that question.

What a great idea you have there, mattgirl and Dechi! This would make things so much easier for newbies and seasoned members alike, just like the emergency template! Then again, I shouldn't be surprised. You are both awesome members here on the forum!

Thank you. I know you know this cycling stuff as well as I do so these words mean a LOT to me.

I have to give credit where credit is due. Most of the credit goes to Dechi. All I had to do is just a tiny bit of fine tuning. It was her/his idea to start with. S/he even wrote the first draft so I really didn't have to do much of anything.

Since I had so little to do with it I can tell y'all my thoughts. I think it is well written and should help us help others much easier.

Maybe add "Have you cleaned and/or replaced your filter media?"

Maybe add "Have you cleaned and/or replaced your filter media?"
We mentioned have you cleaned the filter but we can work in "or replaced media". Good catch. Thank You.

Edited to add: I added "If using disposable cartridges have you replaced one recently?:"
