Wooden Canopy- is it safe?

Hi,

I'm building a canopy using 5"x1" soft wood.

And using 10mm green MDF for lid.

Do I need to treat the timber or is it even to safe to use any of the above?

Thank you.

*EDIT*
I'm a little worried, don't want anything leeching into the tank.

It is safe once it has dried.

Poly paint drys hard and should seal the timber well preventing the MDF from swelling if water comes in contact.

Personally i'd still be a little worried about using MDF for anything above the tank.. as it has fine fibers stuck together with a carcinogenic glue. So if any fibers fall into your tank its probably not very good for the water or the fishes gills. MDF is used fairly often to sit under tanks as its quite solid, but being under the tank there is no issue.

Though sealing it with something like the ploy paint you should have no real issue.. so I don't mean to worry you.

I would personally use a natural timber fo the whole thing.. Pine is good because you can paint or varnish it in any colour

Hope the project goes well =]
