I just got a 55gal that I'm cycling, I got various pieces of rock and whatnot to put in it. I know that the tannins can turn the water brown, so you're supposed to soak it. Question is: does it matter if I put it in without soaking if it is cycling? I want to set up the rock and stuff but i don't want to have to rearrange when I put the wood in.

You don’t need to soak it but most people just don’t like the way wood makes the water look.
Water changes and putting carbon in the filter will clear it up if it bothers you.
