WOO HOO!!! Finally got myself a female betta!

Went into the pet store with the game plan of getting the betta that either stared at me the most, or I felt the most sorry for. Well, didn't take long for one to start staring at me....and after looking around for a little while came home with a white girl with fins that are blue close to the body, red towards the outside. She's kind of shy now, but is swimming around getting used to things. Will put up some pics later to show her off.

By the way.....do female bettas make bubbles? I swear I saw her make one

Just noticed something about her under the light: there are several little black specks on her body. Is this something that's common on white bettas, or is this something that calls for some triple sulfa?

Gorgeous... gorgeous.. and more gorgeous!!! ;D Shes beautiful... ohh the black specks, I really wouldnt worry about it. As the white bodies are not always so clear in color and she may have some variation of color when she matures. Unless it really looks like something ON her body and not part of her coloring...

It's pretty common for a light colored betta to have some red and/or black specs on the body. it's a lot less common to find the light colored ones with no specs.

Thanks for both the compliment and clarification. Oh, and came up with a name. She will now be known as "Spazz." She'll be kinda haning out not doing much, then all of a sudden swim around the tank very quickly for a bit. Seems like a fitting name, haha!

Well, after one day I think she is still trying to settle in and get used to all the space. When I got back from campus this evening, she was hanging out around the top behind the heater/filter intake and pretty much stayed at the top before I left my apartment for the night. A pellet got her to come to me, she's starting to realize that the open door means food. Good skill to have ;D I hope that tomorrow she'll start to explore her cave and plants a bit more, but as long as she's healthy and happy, it's all good!

She is cute, no that doesn't cover it. She is beautiful, no that doesn't even cover it. She is magnificent, I think that doesn't even cover it, but can't think of anything more.

I've got this game with her now. I like to feed her white worms (whatever you call the thawed insect larvae you give bettas) with a long cocktail stick, as it's disgusting and I dont' want to touch the stuff. Anyway, she'd rather chase the stick. So I will 'bother' her by using the stick to shake her plants or something, and she's loving it. Like a cat, sometimes she gets the stock before I get to move it. She'll pretend she's not looking and bam! Darts for it. Nice game, sure gets your adrenaline going, LOL.
