Wonder Golden Killifish Help!! Please!!

started a 10 gallon tank few months ago with 2 very small wonder golden killifish 5 neons and 2 rosy Tetras. The bigger male was attacking the smaller KillI so I removed the small one and put him in his own tank. About a week ago I noticed the big KillI needed more room and got a 20g. The KillI has never had a problem with any of the Tetras which are 1/3-1/2 his size. Today the wife and I went and got 2 dwarf gouramis and 3 LF zebra danios. The danios are little bit bigger than the Tetras but the KillI seems to have a problem with them chasing them everywhere. Have since moved the big KillI to his own tank and the small KillI to the 20g. What is going on and will more plants and decor help calm him down due to the less visibility and direct line of sight?! Please help!!!!

I really just need advice with the KillI fish. He is beautiful and don’t wish to get rid of him

I may have to face the fact that I have to get rid of him but looking for alternate routes before it comes down to that!

Aside from the other stocking issues, which we could discuss if you wanted, golden wonder killis are aggressive to smaller fish (according to some sources, others say that they are peaceful community fish). That is specifically the reason I didn't get them despite them being beautiful and stocked locally.

Yes please I would like to talk about stocking issues to try and narrow things down. I do have the 10 gallon still and could split the community! I read on numerous site that they are peaceful fish that is why I got them. Once on forums I have now realized they are not and will probably only stick to forums for advice

If you need somewhere to look, generally forums, seriouslyfish, and planetcatfish are good places to look. Seriously fish and planet catfish have profiles on fish as well, but I didn't see a profile on there for golden wonder killis. Sellers will often leave out information or put in misinformation to sell more, but forums don't get paid. I wouldn't keep rosy tetras and zebra danios & neon tetras together as they do better at different temperatures. They are also both schooling fish and do best in groups of 6+ of the same species. Dwarf gouramis are aggressive to each other, primarily males towards other males. Good luck with your tank!

Tank is sitting at about 75 degrees which should accommodate temps for the fish I keep. Good to know about the gouramis they are doing great now but until they mature or notice fighting the wife wants to keep them. Thank you so much for the advice and will not be listening to the fish store when it comes to most things. Would you still recommend more plants in the tank to break up line of sight? Have a good size java fern in the tank now.

Keeping fish outside of the midrange of their temperatures isn't really recommended because it can stress them longterm, but they are your fish. Live plants are always good, and while they might help in the short term, they won't solve the issues with the gouramis.

Thank you for the advice. It is much appreciated! If you don’t mind me asking what do you keep?

Aqadvisor is okay as a guideline, but it doesn't take everything into account.

I also bought a pair of Golden Wonder killifish. My LPS would only sell as a pair or pairs. So far they seem like great fish I have them with a school of dwarf rainbow fish some tetras and some Cory’s. Interesting fish they will take food from my finger. Always swimming around my hand when it’s in the tank. I haven’t added any new fish since them. May be there good with existing tank mates but territorial to nw arrivals. LPS said 2 males wouldn’t work they would fight but pairs are fine.

Both my killin would pretty much eat out of my hand even brush up against me as my arm/hand was in the tank. The two I have are males. Have you ensured they are male and female? Saw a female at the store today was debated on getting it. Heard you could keep males in the same tank as long as there are 3 or more but I am now weary of that.

Beautiful tank!! Males analfins come more to a point and females have more rounded analfins.

Male and female

First, these are highly predatory Killifish. They are an aquarium developed color strain of Aplocheilus lineatus. They can reach 4 inches easily, and have a big enough mouth to eat other fish. Chasing Zebra Danios happens because they are surface dwellers like the Killies. They are usually ambush predators.

This species needs far more room than other Killifish because of their size and their activity level. A 20 gallon tank will work, but you have to be careful about tankmates. They can be quite aggressive, and this becomes more evident as they get bigger.
