Will Seeding with tank water cycle my tank?

Question what if I was to use water from a water change from other tank to fill up a new 40 gallon im setting up would i still have to wait for it to cycle?

fishnchips, as stated previously, beneficial bacteria is not free-floating in the water. By transferring over water rather than filter media or gravel, you are basically transferring over a bunch of nitrates, but nothing significantly beneficial.

I would say try to get a cutting of media from a tank you know to be disease-free (most people say not the LFS for this reason), and stick that directly into your tank.

haha sry i worded that badly
so basically im wondering if i should cut off a bit off the filter media (the blue part of the filter pad right?) and put in the new tanks filter
