Will python water changer suck up sand?

fishtrooper

I’m thinking about switched from gravel to sand in my new aquarium. My only worry is I have the Python vacuum that hooks up to my sink. Will this suck up the sand? What if it does suck up the sand?

Yes it will. With sand you ‘surface clean’ as debris doesn’t imbed into it like gravel - it stays on the top, so just skim the surface. You’ll still get little sand but it won’t hurt the python and the more you do it the better you’ll get at it.

You won't be able to vacuum it the same way you do the gravel. With sand you have to hover a bit over the substrate.
