Will my two boys calm down?

I have finally got all my fish in their new permanent homes and now have my two 35l tanks each housing one betta ...
We stupidly assumed they wouldnt see each other because of the mirror effect in the tank how wrong were we!!
Anyway at the moment they have a huge envelope on the unit between the two tanks so they can't see each other, as one is much more aggressive than the other...
Will I be able to remove this or will I have to come up with a permanent divider to go between the tanks?
I was afraid if they saw each other all the time it might stress them out??

They will calm down most of the time, give them a week imo. Planting or decorating around the side of the tank will help. They should calm down and start deffending their territories.

Well that didn't go well at all...went mad for a while then seemed to calm down...just had a good look at them and Genghis my lovely purple boy has split his dorsal fin from top to bottom right down the middle...I'm guessing with the rocket speed he was going through the plants ....divider back in until I can get either silk plants or real ones ....I thought the one he had in there would have been okay it has rounded leaves and isn't sharp but he's managed it somehow....so have no choice but to change them I guess :what:

If you have plastic plants, get them out of there now. Bettas should never be kept with plastic, the edges will shred their fins easily, as you've seen.

I actually found some rubber, soft, salt water looking plants at my LPS. I have it in with my Betta.

Silks are at walmart, always. They have tons of them, just look for the cloth plants.

...my bad -__-. Sorry bout that. That really stinks. IF you don't want a ugly divider you can use the same thing we use to make tank backgrounds, the photostickers, and just put 2 pieces between the tanks, back to back so each fish hs a design, I'm sorry about his fin, unforseen problem. Dont worry, I give it 1-2 weeks to heal. It really doesn't take long.

Java fern work great for this purpose, large broad leaves in bunches and easy to care for. If you want to get fancy you can start a moss wall. Just get 2 pices of mesh/screening and frame them togather with a small space between them and put your moss of choice in there, or thread strands of it through with a needle. Ive been meaning to do so for a while.

Thank you ....I went to my lfs today told him the problem, he was great and sent me home with four plants (one was a freebie as I practically live there lol)
They look really nice and Genghis looks much calmer now ...I'll go back at the weekend and get some for the other bettas tank
