I have a figure 8 puffer and I have noticed twice within 2 weeks that he will be swimming then he looks like he is coughing or choking and looks like he is digesting something. Not sure

Could he be de puffing? When they are expelling the water from being puffed up, looks like coughing or burping.

Yeah and it looks like if he is curling up. Is that what it is?

I have only had dwarf puffers, and don't recall the curling up bit. Is he curling up from side to side or ?

If he puffed, he'd probably be dead already. Puffing means extreme stress and generally when it happens, the fish don't live more than a few hours.

Could you get a video of the behavior? It may just be that he's chewing something, or displaying for dominance (some fish do this regardless of the presence of other fish)
