Will my mollies tail grow back?

I hadn't seen my sailfin Molly for a couple days and finally found him stuck in the top of a castle decoration. Looks like he either wore it off trying to get out or the other mollies were just feeding on it.

Do you think his tail will grow back? I haven't ever dealt with this before. I quarantined him because it seemed that the other mollies were stressing him out considering he can't swim as well. He was the master of the tank before this all happened lol

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Oh dear!!! He's so beautiful... I'm so sad his tail is gone. Whether is grows back depends on what caused it to become like that. If your profile info is correct, I would definitely recommend getting the liquid test kit from API 5 in 1. Test strips are crazy inaccurate most of the time so your water readings can be really off. Your profile says you have Nitites reading which leads me to think that your tank isn't cycled which could be the reason why you Molly's tail is rotted away due to bad water parameters. It could be a bacterial infection too. Look up finrot causes/treatment on here. Also uncycled tanks can cause a ton of stress so that could make things a whole look worse. You need to know ammonia levels too, that's key to knowing if your tank is cycled or not... Or if it's still cycling.

Frequent water changes with Prime (or whatever conditioner you're using) will help him to avoid infection so he has the best chance of healing.

I've been doing 30% water changes every other day my qt doesn't have a filter so I put him back in the community tank after he seemed fast enough to get around. His tail seems to be looking better already after a day so that's good. Hes still timid I hope he gets his fair share of food.

Oh no. Sorry to hear that! I have lyretails as well with one being nipped pretty bad and it seems to be growing back. Good luck to you! I've only had ick in the tank once and the Molly died from it but with my tank being brackish it never spread luckily.
