Will my guppy be alright in this?

Well I've just moved my female guppy to a breeder trap. I've read that she'll give birth in at most a week. Will she be alright until then?

The breeder trap is about 1 litre and has a airlift to circulate the water. It's a small aqua manta breeder trap.

1 litre is a really tight space. Guppy strains do vary in how much they'll put up with, but I have to admit that no girl guppy I've ever would stay put in something that small for a week. Hope she gives birth soon!

Ok I'll hope! I'll be on the look out for a bigger breeder.

Guppies can be fairly hardy fish in my experience. As long as the water params are good and the oxygenation is good, then I think you won't have a problem. For a little while, anyway.

mollies are hardy but a litre box would stress her out easily.

Ok, I can't set her free in the aquarium because she's been nipping my male (Ripped his fins to shreds!) but could I get her to give birth to them in the fry tank?

She could give birth in the fry tank if it's cycled already so she doesn't stress from that. Just make sure that you get her out as soon as she's done giving birth before the chemical that tells her not to eat her babies wears off or you'll be watching her pick off fry and using them as lunch!

Less than a week ago I lost a mama and all of the fry in her belly because the breeder box stressed her out. I found her laying at the bottom resting upright in the V of the trap just wiggling around with the water movement. I almost didn't notice that she was dead. Sad.

Thanks. I'm sad she died and I tried pushing out her babies to see if I could save them but she was apparently dead too long before I found her so the babies were gone too Next time I'll have a well planted tank before bringing home pregnant females. I have plant clippings all over now. Just waiting on them to grow grow grow

What a tragedy! I've lost a few pregnant females over the winter, and it's very sad to lose their babies, too

Hopefully next time everything will go more smoothly. I have dwarf water lettuce growing in the tank that should provide some hiding places up high and some java moss growing on my decorative rocks at the bottom as well as four other types of plants growing so eventually it should be a fry friendly tank even with the parents hanging around. I used to wait until I saw fry in my old tank and then just net them and put them in a breeder box until they were big enough not to get eaten so I'll probably just do it that way again

ETA: no idea why two of the photos are sideways. Just tilt your head to the left I guess LOL!
