will LED lighting sustain plants?

I have a 20 gal tank that I recently bought about 7 plants for and I plan on adding many more to make it a heavily planted tank. Before I can do that though, I need a way better light. Today I was at my LFS and saw the Marineland Double Bright LED lighting system and I'm wondering if it will give plants the proper lighting to grow healthy. I've been looking stuff up and I'm getting mixed answers.
Thanks!

I have always wanted to try LEDs on a planted tank. I too have got a lot of mixed answers.
But if you have money to spend why not try it and get experience it for yourself. I like trying new and different things!

While I can't say if that particular LED will support plants, I can say that it is ENTIRELY possible to grow plants with LED's. You just need to find the correct fixture.

I just bought an LED light fixture for a non planted tank. It seems like you just need a higher output fixture, like CM said.

Marineland is a good example - they have the single and the double, and the reef fixture. The single is for fish only, the double for fish with plants.

Marineland is coming out with a plant capable LED system sometime in May of this year. I'm gonna try that one out and see how it does.

I have a 20 gallon high aquarium that I started about a week or so ago and my wisteria and banana plant have doubled in size with its LED lighting from Marineland. It came with the kit and seems to be doing well for the type of plants I have.
