I have a peaceful firemouth cichlid (still juvenile) and i was wondering if they won't eat cherry barbs. And since cherry barbs are top water fish and firemouths swim in the middle of the tank, will they peacefully coexist?

Unlikely, but depends on the size ratio. A fully grown adult cichlid will at least try to eat everything that fits in its mouth.
I find the combination suboptimal due to the different requirements concerning water parameters (GK/KH/pH), current and light. Cherry barbs come from sluggish blackwater creeks in Indonesia, firemouth cichlids from medium current hardwater streams in Central America.

Actually rather midwater.

Firemouths will most likely eat any fish that will fit in it's mouth.
Big Barbs such as Denisons or Filamentosa would make good schooling tankmates, or as listed above, regionally accurate livebearers such as Swordtails would do nicely.
