Will chlorinated water running through my filter for about 5-10 minutes kill all the bacteria?

Can't believe I just did that *facepalm*

I was panic-setting up a 5g for my very pregnant platy I just got, and totally forgot to dechlorinate!!

I cut a veeeeeerry seeded piece of filter sponge from another tank in half, and threw that in a whisper 5-10g with some other filter media/fresh sponge, then put in and turned it on,

la la la la not a care in the world~

And then 5ish minutes later:

"OMG WHAT AM I DOING"

SLAMS HASTILY ESTIMATED PRIME INTO TANK

*panics*

I don't have much other seeded material to spare and I need this tank asap! I was planning on throwing some decorations in from one of my other tanks to aid the cycle anyways, but how screwed am I here?

not sure on time frame but non treated water can kill bb for sure thats why there is chlorine in the water, to kill bacteria from our pipes. but as of time frame not sure, just dose with prime like you did and check parameters in 6hrs. usually its 24hrs to see a difference in most parameters but do to missy being pregnant id check every 6hrs.if its just her it shouldnt be a big problem if some bb died off, most of your bb will die off due to the lack of bioload its used to.

Best of luck with this. just keep an eye on it

Thanks so much for the thoughtful reply, that makes sense that most of the BB would die anyways. Hopefully some made it, between that and whatever other BB I can add thru decorations it should be good to go soon.

Do you mind me asking your opinion, if my platy looks very pregnant (but I mean I've never seen her look any other way so) and is hiding currently, is she probably gonna pop soon? How long do you think before I should get her in the 5g? She was out and about when I put her in my 20g community about 12 hours ago but has been hiding the last 5 or so

If you just moved her to the 20 it could be she's adjusting to the tank and she found her safe spot. I'd put her in the other tank sometime today. She's most likely gonna want another hiding spot in there for her. Moving fish can be stressful on them and on top of things she's already stressed being pregnant. So having a hiding spot she can get to right away will help her in the stress part. When I move my fish it takes them from an hr to a day to adjust to the new surroundings. Either way she needs to be moved to have the babies. And will need hiding spot.

Nitrifying bacteria happily lives in drinking water systems so it's probably not going to be an issue.

Phew that's a relief! Thank you all for the input ^.^

This is what I have set up for her to go into (also, she needs a name if anyone has any suggestions!).
Does it look okay?

I've never had baby fish before I was concerned about them getting sucked against the filter or heater so I tried to section it off lol but it looks pretty... Diy xD The decoration has hides, there's some fake and real plants floating.

I was checking out momma when she came close to the glass and I thought she was already pushing some out! But I think I still have some time (I hope)
