Will Bolivian Rams be okay with a bigger gravel substrate?

I have a 29 gallon Community planted tank with guppies and tetras. I have bigger gravel substrate, will that be too big for Bolivian Rams or should I change it to something else?

I have 2 Bolivian Rams, they were in a 20, but not happy lol. I think one is a female and the other male, it is smaller and has more of a tube than the other Ram...IMO, and I am no expert, pair of rams need atleast a 40gb because they move around a lot. And even if it's a pair, l have seen these 2 go at it one minute, dividing the tank lol, then next minute swimming off together lol.

I have used gravel throughout tank, with some patches of sand here n there, these 2 love sifting the sand for sure, and will take a cpl rocks in mouth here n there, spit them out, Rams are also known to make a breeding indent in the sand, havent seen that yet personally but sounds really cool lol, they are geophagus so are really good at stiring the substrate.

Sorry I'm terrible at the scientific naming lol, fairly new at the hobby but have had quite the success with a variety of species...mostly using fake plants and really low budget setups.
Canada is insane for pricing lol. Just got into live plants, hoping to propagate and replace the fake.

Hope that helps in some way

I have a pair of GBR in a 55g. They have been perfectly ok with gravel substrate. I think the only fish who have issues are some bottom dwellers.

Yeah, these B.Rams seem to linger more at bottom, and these 2 apparently do not like any other bottom dweller, not even a pleco lol. They do go mid level here n there, but seems like it's all about the bottom for these 2
Maybe the GBR are more mid ?

No mine hang at the bottom also. They go mid level some. The only bottom dweller I have is the BN. They only bug her when they have eggs.

Oh that's cool, can't get GBR here...yeah these 2 dont share substrate with any other species lol. They will team up..but they are still too young I think to breed...maybe just preparing. Guess if I am lucky, these 2 are a pair and will breed later on, in species tank.

I would do some research on breeding Rams. I know GBR are pretty hard to breed. Not to lay eggs, but to keep them from eating the eggs and keeping they fry alive once you get some. Im not sure on the other breeds of Rams though so good luck!

I think we've taken over the Ops thread sorry!

I have both gravel and sand in with my Bolivians. They definitely prefer the sand, though they are fine with gravel. So I'd agree that you should be fine.

For me, Bolivians aren't very hard to breed. They make great parents and leave the eggs alone for the most part IME.
