Will Anti-Bacteria Medicine cause Bubbles?

hI everyone,

I quarantined a fish the other day in a 10 gallon large plastic container I had. I put in some stuff from the tank for cover for my fish as well as an airstone for oxygen. I added in API T.C. Tetracycline to treat a bacteria infection my fish had and since doing have noticed the top of the tank is covered in bubbles almost an 1inch deep. Is it normal for the medication to cause bubbles like this?

I've not used the tetracycline, but I've had floating bubbles with Maracyn 2, which is another anti-bacterial medication. At least for Maracyn 2, this is normal.

I've used Tetracycline before and it caused bubbles, a filmy look to the top of the water, and actually changed the water color to a yellowish-pink.

Jahnikar, that is exactly what's happening in my tank. Its pretty gross looking. Did it work for you though?

It would have worked had it not been expired. LFS sold me meds that were 4 years expired It seemed to help some though. The one I used actually said on the packaging that it would discolor the water and cause some foam.

*edit* Got this straight from API's site: "Note: This medication will cause a slight discoloration of water which can be removed with activated carbon."

And from www.everythingfishy.com: "Brownish discoloration of water and bubbling are known side effects. May cause some unusual algae growth of several varieties on live plants. After 7 day run is completed, on day 8, use water changes and carbon to begin removing the tetracycline. Live plants with fuzz may be dipped in a weak bleach water solution, rinsed thoroughly, and put back in the tank."
