Will An African Dwarf Frog Eat Amano Shrimp Shells?

I have an ADF (not the clawed kind) and 2 adult Amano Shrimp in my tank, and I noticed that one of the shrimp had molted its shell. I read that they sometimes will eat it and regain nutrients so I’ve left it in there, but I also saw the frog take a nibble at it. It’s been hard to feed the frog because he’s not the brightest and when I drop food in front of him he doesn’t always see it and the fish and shrimp end up taking it. I almost want him to eat it so I know he gets some food before I go to my LFS and get some worms to feed him by hand!

ADFs have poor eyesight and hunt by smell and movement. They will try to take a bit out of almost anything, even fish much larger than themselves. I feed mine frozen bloodworms and mysis shrimp with tongs.

I wouldn't let the frog eat just the shell as it might constipate them. Take my advice, use tongs to selectively feed. They're not the brightest critters but they will learn to associate the tongs with food, I know mine certainly has!
