Pictus cats need to be in groups and therefor need to be in large tanks. They are shoaling fish, so you should not have just one. How big is your tank?

I'd say minimum tank size is 55 gallons for a group of pictus cats.

I'm sorry, but someone gave you woefully incorrect information. They are a schooling fish and need to be kept in groups of at least six, with a 55 gallon minimum. They need relatively dI'm lighting and 8-10 places to hide.
They are renound snail eater and will eat your mystery snail if given a chance

You were definitely misled then.
You cannot keep a pictus cat in a 20g. So you should start thinking about other options.

What else do you have in the 20 gallon besides a mystery snail?
