Will A Bumblebee Catfish Attempt To Eat Another Catfish After It Didn't Succeed The First Time?

I would like to know if I need to move my Rafael cat to another tank. My 10 inch bumblebee cat had my 8 inch Rafael cat in its mouth, with the head sticking out, I made him spit it out and he did. I'm curious to know if he will attempt it again? Rafael is about 2 1/2 inches wide so I'm very surprised that the bumblebee cat even got it in his mouth. I also have a Redtail that is a foot and a half who has no interest in the Rafael cat, which is the strange, but good part. I've had the redtail since he was about 5 inches and I raised him with a different Rafael cat and he never tried to eat that one either. The bumblebee is new to my tank, I've had him for two days now and I've never had one before. My husband is the fish expert out of the two of us. He's a trucker out on the the road at the moment, so I can't ask him right now. Hopefully someone has some information on it. Thanks.

If he tried once he'll try again. I'm hoping you have an extremely large tank having a red tail. What size tank do you have? What all is in with the rtc, Rafael, and bumble bee.

I was afraid I'd get that answer. It's still very strange to me because the Rafael is wider than the bumblebees mouth. I have a 200 gallon and I am well aware of the size they will grow to. I have a giant albino gourami, spotted cat, 2 giant plecos, there's another non catfish but I can't remember the name at the moment.

I honestly think it depends. I had a very similar situation. My bumblebee catfish (that has since passed) tried to eat my spotted raphael but he ended up spitting it out and never bothered him again.

Sooner or later the red-tail will eat or try to eat all of those fish. The bumblebee will try to eat any of it's tank mates it can catch. Psuedopimelodus cats can be very territorial so watch for aggression from it.

I didn't even think about the red tail, but you are absolutely right about that. He will eventually eat everything in that tank or try to anyway.

Because everybodies wondering and I can't resist, what do you plan to do with the rtc? Are you going to get a bogger tank?

What spotted cat do you have? The gourami and the RTC will outgrow a 200. Could you post a pic of the spotted cat and the other fish in your tank?

She's big enough now to eat them, but she doesn't have interest. She eats things under 4 inches

My husband is going to build an above ground pond for our Redtail. I will most likely buy a bigger tank if and when my gourami needs it.

RTCs don't have tank mates just future meals. If it fits they will eventually eat them. The gourami is the only one of your current fish that will grow large enough to stay with the red-tail.

I'm not sure I bought him from a local pet store and all his label said was spotted catfish. He's about 6 1/2 inches and he's very active.

I think it was supposed to be "bigger" not bigger. Probably another case of spellcheck.

Could you possibly take a photo of the spotted catfish?

I know that but eventually she will be by herself in an above ground pond or we might get another RTC to go with her. I'm currently trying to find another 55 gal tank for the smaller cats.

I'm wondering if it could maybe be a hoplo catfish or maybe one of the synodontis catfish?
