Will a 25watt heater be suitable for a 60L?

lilywarren

Hi there! I’ve currently got a 20L tank that i’m upgrading to a 60L, and wondering if my 25 watt will be ok? Am only heating the tank from 18 degrees outside temp to about 24 Celsius, so is there any major issue with me using my smaller heater?

A 50 watt would be minimum, I would rather get a 75 or 100.

I wouldnt have said so. Id be concerned with the heater being overworked and underpowered.

The general rule is 1w per litre of water, although heaters tend to come in increments of 25w so you may get away with a 50w, but a 75w would make sure. I use a 75w on a similar sized tank.

I have a temporary small 40l tank set up just now with a 50W heater and that only just copes (the tank temperature drops a few degrees at night). Our temperature drops considerably below 18 degrees at night, but I still think the 25W would not be enough.
